UIUC vs. Cornell Engineering

I was accepted to both UIUC and Cornell engineering and am certain on doing computer science, but I am completely stuck as to which one i should choose. I am out of state for both.

Going for UIUC:
-Higher ranked CS department (new Siebel Center, cofounders of Youtube and PayPal both came from there)
-I got out of state scholarship (half tuition)
-James scholar which gives priority in picking some classes and more opportunities for research and honors credit in classes

for Cornell:
-smaller classes
-CS is still ranked well and is very reputable (maybe not quite at the level of Illinois)
-i like the atmosphere better and i like the rural location
-good alumni connections

I am very stuck! If I go to Cornell i'll have to loan ~5 or 10k a year, but is it worth it?? Are UIUC students happy with the school? Will the CS program get me a good job?
Thanks

Since it is past the May 1st deadline, did you double deposit at both schools? Have you visited both schools? Neither can guarantee you a good job. Both are excellent schools. It comes down to what is a better fit for you.

I think the CS community at UIUC is small and being a James Scholar give you a leg up and makes your community even smaller. You will have a lot of opportunities afforded you at UIUC. I am sure it is the same at Cornell, it is what you make of it.

Good luck.

OP may have gotten off the wait list at Cornell.

I’d choose based on money. How much more is Cornell? If it’s a lot and it will cause hardship, go to UIUC. If about the same, I think Cornell is the choice as their CS department is definitely regarded just as well as UIUC’s if not better, and you seem to prefer the atmosphere. Both will get you good jobs.
