Ahhhh! It's getting too close to the deadline and I still haven’t made my choice ><

I'm currently choosing between Cornell and UIUC, and I'm planning to major in Environmental Engineering.

I know UIUC has a great reputation for engineering, but will it be worth giving up an ivy league university to get that education? Does anyone know how Cornell's engineering compares to UIUC’s?

Really appreciate any sort of advice you may be able to give... especially in terms of campus life as well, as I don't know anyone personally in UIUC and I don't live near enough to visit... so thanks in advance :)

I think UIUC has an edge over Cornell in the engineering reputation. Of course overall Cornell has a great Ivy league reputation. As far as what school to pick, I think you have to go with do you want a Big Ten school with a lot of school spirit, plenty to do, great facilities, a huge Greek system if you care to join in or do you like the smaller atmosphere in upstate NY? Going to a football game in a packed stadium of 65,000 plus and basketball games in Assembly Hall not to mention the events and concerts that come to Assembly Hall…(ie Jason Mraz) I don’t think they make their way to Cornell…

You really can’t use the concert thing because he could always get himself on a two hour bus or car to NYC and see whatever the heck he wants.

They are both great engineering schools. Cornell is a better school overall, obviously, but UIUC beats it in engineering.

Honestly, you really can’t go wrong assuming you stay in engineering. If you decide to switch out of engineering, then probably you would be better off at Cornell, though UIUC isn’t bad at everything else, just not AS good.

Cornell is in Ithaca,NY in upstate NY which is more like 4 hours from NY city…that was my point. Cornell is kind of in the middle of nowhere…not that Champaign isn’t …but at least you have the facilities and attractions at Illinois.

Just to toss in an interesting anecdote…one of my friend’s transferred to UIUC from Cornell after a semester due to the high caliber of our engineering programs. She is now in the civil/environmental program here.

Cornell. There will be a more diverse, intelligent student body coming from all over the place. I am not saying that UIUC is not diverse and that the students are not intelligent, its just that there’s a high percentage of in-staters that got the upper hand in admissions
