I have visited both programs and they seem very similar on paper and in person. Any feeling about long term value of education or getting into grad school?

The two schools are about as close as you can get for engineering education and both are excellent. I would make a decision based on other factors (campus, location, weather, activities, interests, etc).

UIUC is getting a brand new ECE building which should be completed in 2012 =)

^ so is GT and they are remodeling the current one

in ECE circle, UIUC is more well known than GaTech

I’ve seen the opposite in my experience, but when you get to that fine level of difference (the #4 and #6 EE schools and #4 and #5 engineering schools), it becomes more environment / location dependent.

I recommend UIUC but they are both great.

For Computer Engineering, Illinois is better choice than GT
