UIUC vs. MICHIGAN

Saying that I will have to pay $10000 for UIUC and $20000 for Uof M

What would be the good decision?

I am an IL resident, so UIUC is cheaper for me, but I was wondering if Umich

is worth paying $10000 more (a year) than UIUC.

I am currently in LSA and my intended major is either engineering or science.

If I am doing engineering, probably going for chem or biomed or elec (sry no idea what to do yet, just know the field)

I am also considering possibility of going to med school.

If you were in my situation what would be the good decision?

Thanks.

Go to UI. It matches UM in engineering and sciences very well and $40k over 4 years is a lot of money.

my thoughts are a little different. if you plan on going to med school, you should goto UIUC, no question about it. But if you plan on pursuing a career after college other than engineering, Michigan is worth the extra 10k. Also, fit is very important, a good fit is worth 10k extra a year.

How so? UI is ranked higher in chemistry and physics. UM has an edge in bio but most majors in these areas end up going to grad school anyway.

Michigan I believe is ranked higher in just about all business and engineering respects than UIUC.

UIUC is ranked higher in some engineering subjects. Michigan is good almost every other subject.

go UIUC... save that 40k and go on a vacation, seriously. In engineering, Illinois is on par with michigan (some certain majors higher and some lower).

Unless you think you may wish to major in Business, I don't think Michigan is $40,000 better than UIUC. Of course, if your folks are wealthy, Ann Arbor would provide you with a more pleasant and intellectual experience and a more nationally recognized brand name.
