UIUC vs. Purdue for Computer Science

I've applied to both as a computer science major, and I will probably be minoring/double-majoring in math.

I live in Indiana so Purdue is going to be a lot cheaper, but I figure I might be able to close the gap with the enormous amount of scholarships Illinois offers. Not for sure on this though, and money is a huge factor.

I visited both schools and, personally, I liked Illinois better. The setting, city, campus, and facilities all seemed nicer and cleaner. Purdue seemed dismal and old in comparison, but maybe that's just because I wasn't feeling good that day.

If not for the price (I've also applied to CMU/MIT), I would avoid these because they're party schools, and I want to be in a more academic environment. In any case, which of the two is less of a party school?

Also, how's the employment for CS majors coming out of UIUC compared to those coming out of Purdue?

Thanks a ton!

Bump…

I’m in the same boat, I am currently a junior and am looking to major in Computer Science. I have pretty good grades (4.2 weighted, 3.7-3.8 weighted) and have taken 7 AP courses. My ACT was at 27 with no prep, but I’m hoping I can raise it up to a 30/31. I’m considering going to grad school at a more prestigious university since it’s almost too late in my high-school career to get admitted into schools like MIT, Stanford, etc. (Although I’m trying they’re far reaches).

I’m kinda curious as to which one you all would suggest. Money is a pretty big factor, and I am an Indiana resident, however I am not sure what kind of scholarships/financial aid Illinois can offer. I have yet to visit Illinois but am hoping to here soon. I really feel like Purdue is the right place (vicinity, cost, etc.) but the fact that UIUC is #5 in Computer Science (above some schools like Brown, etc.) really is making it a hard decision… I’m looking for a very social environment and the fact that Purdue has the 3rd largest greek organization is very enticing as well.

I guess my major question is am I going to miss out on career opportunities between Purdue and UIUC? Does it even make a difference between the two if I apply for Grad school (talking more admission factors into Grad school obviously)?

any input on this please??
