hey i'm an indian international student studying in S'pore. i gt admission into both UIUC and Purdue's Electrical Engineering programme. now i'm confused as to which one shld i finalize.

which one has a better Elec engg prog n which one is better for an international student?

I go to UIUC and there are at least 5 or 6 Indians living on my floor alone (I live in a dorm popular with engineers), so you wouldn't be alone.

UIUC ranks slightly higher, and I think is more diverse. But Purdue is a great school. Getting to a major airport from either school is about the same time/distance.

If you know what you want to concentrate on in EE, then look at the differences in programs there. Good luck!

Based on having visited both places a few times (with friends in both), I personally would find Champagne-Urbana is a lot nicer place to live than West Lafayette. It's about 3X larger and also more diverse.

They are both excellent schools. I would pick the one I felt most comfortable at when I visited. You need to go somewhere you feel happy and comfortable in order to be successful! You can't go wrong with either!

Academics similar. Look at all of the other factors and go to the school that seems to fit on most of those. Check with the student organizations for Indians and see where you feel the most comfortable. If you still have trouble deciding, pick one and don't look back.

I'd visit, if possible. Anecdotally (I'm an undergrad in EE) I hear the graduate program in EE is stronger at UIUC. Don't know if that extends to undergrad or how valid it is.

Research all of the nonacademics at each of the schools. Definitely talk to people there if you can't visit. Now you need to do your homework instead of asking us to give you the answers.

Both are well respected. I would say choose UIUC even though it is a little bit more expensive. There are so many more things to do around there compared to West Lafayette.

Illinois is only 2 hours by train or bus from Chicago, whereas Purdue is in a smallish town and not near any large urban areas or connected by public transport.

Think about what you want to do on weekends--both schools are large & self-contained with plenty to do on campus, but you might like being near Chicago.

Purdue and UIUC are both about 125 milies from Chicago. There is coach (bus) transport from both locations to Chicago. It may be that the train transit from UIUC is more convenient, but the distance is virtually identical.

Urbana-Champaign isn't a great city either, as compared with some other midwestern university locations with which I am most familiar (though I did spend a summer in U-C). But UIUC probably is more diverse in its student body than Purdue.

Your choice might be based on which speciality you prefer within engineering. I can't advise you on that. But they both have very good reputations in engineering generally.

No one can make your decision for you. Did you follow our advice and do your homework about each school? Make lists of priorities and pros/cons YOU notice. We can't know enough about you to decide which school is a better fit- either one would work. What happened when you contacted others from your country at each school...
