Hi,
i applied to both of these schools and i'm wondering which school has a better architecture program. Also, which one is harder to get into?

From rankings, seems syracuse has a better program. but i also understand that we can't really determine whether a prgram is good or not by looking at DI rankings.... school wise, UIUC is more famous....

Please tell me more about these schools. Thanks!

Forget those DI rankings. They are useless.

Where do you want to practice when you get out? If you want to work in New York, give Syracuse a try. If you want to work in Chicago, UIUC would be a better fit.

Read through the faculty bios to look for MArch and BArch degrees from top notch programs like Cornell, AA, Cooper, Princeton etc. Just from my cursory glance, there are too many professors with midwestern degrees teaching at UIUC. The midwest, while lovely, is not a hotbed of design.

haha
actually i don't think i have a choice..
i got 2 results..
rejected by UIUC
accepted by syracuse..
but i'd probably choose syracuse over UIUC even if i got accepted to UIUC...

Actually, at first, i thought my chance at UIUC was higher, becuase i had a fairly good reference letter from a professor....but somehow i got rejected >< oppositely,, i got accepted to syracuse, along with a nice scholarship.... does this mean syracuse has lower standards? Well, I'm still waiting for results from USC, Uwashington, lehigh and some canadian unis...

nicniclee, congratulations on your acceptance to the BArch degree program at Syracuse! I believe it is a very strong program. My daughter, who doesn't attend Syracuse, did the Syracuse in Florence program this past fall for architecture and was very happy with it. Her professor in studio was excellent.

i've met several syracuse arch students since cornell is so close to syracuse. they seem to be good students. we have several ppl from syracuse come here to crit us during reviews. the florence program may be one reason why you should go to syracuse because study abroad programs tend to be really good experiences. syracuse has a good program..just make sure you're fine working away from the main campus.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions guys!

Actually, i too, think syracuse architecture would be a very good choice for me.

But realistically, is the education provided by syracuse alot better than canadian universities such as UToronto and Uwaterloo? I talked to my dad yesterday, and he says he can afford to pay $47000 a year for US colleges.. but since the US price is like 3-4 times of the Canadian uni price, is it really worth going to US? I mean, if i get into U of T architecture studies, or Waterloo architecture, i will still be able to get a degree... and perhaps people think U of T is more well known and prestigious compared to Syracuse. So do you guys think it is worth paying 3 times the price to attend an "OKAY" US college?
