UIUC vs UC Berkeley

Someone please help give me some insight into which college I should choose...

Out of all the colleges I've applied to, the two main ones I have gotten into are UIUC and UC Berkeley. But, I want to be an accountant with a CPA, and eventually I hope to be able to go into investment banking.

At UIUC, I was admitted to their Business School and their Business Honors Program, so I get first choice at picking classes and a healthy $14,000 scholarship without financial aid included, but I am from California. Also, they offer a 5 year program where I can get my undergraduate and my masters in accounting.

At UC Berkeley, I was spring-semestered into the College of Arts and Sciences, and hopefully I was admitted to their Fall Program for Freshmen. I understand that getting into Haas is still difficult even though I was admitted into Berkeley, but even if I do go there, there is only a Business Administration degree.

The dilemma is that if I end up deciding against doing business, Berkeley is the more well rounded school, and I could opt into a different major. But, the opportunities and competition is more comfortable at UIUC. I also plan on double majoring in Environmental Science, and hopefully an MBA of some sort in the future.

Help?

It seems like UIUC would be the best option for you. I’m also admitted into the business program for the upcoming year, and since your goals are to follow the CPA/IB path, UIUC would offer the best recruitment in that area since it is known as a top-notch business school. Plus, with all the perks you are getting, your experience and job opportunities at UIUC will probably be even better. The university also has a nice Environmental program, as well.
If you opt out of doing business, what is the other major you would plan on doing? Either way, UIUC has great programs for all types of majors. What it really comes down to, I guess is the financial situation. Out of state is pretty darn expensive at UIUC, even with the scholarship money you are receiving. If the money isn’t a worry, I would say for your goals, UIUC would be the best bet. If financially it would be a problem, why not pay the in-state money to attend Berkeley which is also a competitive school and has a reputable name?
That’s just my opinion. I’m still debating on attending UIUC because of the money, but it seems thats where I’ll be headed =]

Would Berkeley still be cheaper for you? My buddy with a Cal economics degree just passed the CPA exams… Undergrad degree doesnt really matter. Go with the cheaper option.

As of right now, Berkeley would be cheaper, assuming that the university itself would give me some money (I qualify for CalGrant). But the main fear is going to Cal to get a Business Administration Degree. (As far as I am aware, Cal only has a BA degree with concentrations in Accounting, Marketing, etc.) I plan on getting an MBA, so would an MBA be redundant? What could I do with an economics major?

Environmental Sci? Instate? Econ? If you are thinking about an MBA, then an undergrad degree in biz is somewhat redundant. Take the liberal arts (Econ) route.

Go Bears!

Apparently, this question gets asked a lot…
