I got into the material science major of UIUC and chemical engineering major of UCSB, and I am a california resident. I really dont care much about weather. Food maybe? Entertainment is fine as long as i have access to wifi. I am now having a hard time to decide which school to go, because they are both really good engineering schools. Also, I heard from some where sayign that major ranking isnt very important compare to the overall ranking. So, I am here to find some good suggestions for my final decisions. Thank you!
UCSB. No sense paying out of state tuition if you have no compelling reason to go to UIUC – and at the same time have an alternative the caliber of UCSB.
Hmm… in state tuition at UCSB vs. out of state tuition at UIUC.
Schools roughly even in the rankings, and both very high for engineering.
UCSB sits literally on the beach in lovely Santa Barbara, while UIUC is in the cornfields in central Illinois. You may not care about weather but you might care next February when it has been grey and snowy for several months straight.
UCSB is particularly good in chemistry, with a couple of recent Nobel prizes.
UCSB has high quality of food (A+ ranking from Niche).
I have massive respect for UIUC, but for a California resident the choice seems fairly clear.
UCSB, definitely. it has one of the best ChemE programs in the US. Plus … location location location. And in state tuition.
Unless you’re just dying to go to UIUC, and money is no issue, I’d say this is an easy choice.
Thank you all for your advices!!!
