UIUC vs. UF for ChemE

Recognzing there are a few old threads on the topic, what is the latest opinion on going to UF for free (Benacquisto) vs. full pay UIUC (32K in-state) for ChemE? In other words, will paying 128K for the UIUC brand yield additional dividends over the subsequent 40 years? Thanks.

$128K? Since both graduates will end up earning about the same amount, it’s almost impossible to justify.

If you can afford it (no loans), sure, go to UIUC, and maybe buy a Porsche. Just don’t spend the $128K thinking it’s going to yield enough financial dividends to justify the expense.

Use LinkedIn, and look up each school. Select Alumni, and then sort by engineering or Chemical Engineering. You’ll see alumni for both schools work for many of the same companies.

Your PERFORMANCE, will have far more impact on your future earnings, than UIUC vs UF.

Good Luck!

I might not choose UIUC over UF if exactly the same. Perhaps but it would be a multifaceted decision. For 128k. Not a chance.
