UIUC vs. UIowa for areas in film

I was headed to NYU, but I applied to LSP not Tisch, so it wasn't worth my money. Right now, I'm specifically interested in preparing for an MBA/MFA. These universities are SO BIG that I can't compile all the information I need to make a sound judgement, so I'm asking students directly for their input. I know UIUC and UIowa aren't top schools to study film, but I'm looking to transfer to Tisch or continue to grad school and apply to USC Stark or the like. I think I still have the option of going to UMiami, and I know they have more full on programs specific to film, but I don't know if you can start classes sophomore year or declare film your major sophomore year. It looks like it's down to UIUC and UIowa.

Things to be aware of:
a) I am not going into any STEM majors (though I may do digital art and computer science).
b) I am most likely going into business and/or creative writing or communications (radio, television, film).
c) I've been admitted to Iowa honors, which is a plus for me to go there rather than UIUC.

I appreciate any information and opinions.
Also, how is the film scene at each of these universities? I know Iowa has Bijou, but UIUC has Ebertfest, IFV, and VAMP. Anyone involved in these?
And most importantly, how is UIUC English, creative writing, and communications and media in comparison to Iowa (I know Iowa's cw rep is legendary, but in case I do choose UIUC, I want to make sure UIUC's rep is respectable in the areas of study mentioned above).

Misc: Opinion on facilities and equipment (cameras, gyms, theaters, etc.) and atmosphere (gardens, parks, architecture, etc.)?

For Iowa students: Is anyone dorming in Daum? Is anyone doing the Living-Learning Communities?

Thanks

And UIUC has a BCEC club and Star Course (music promotion but it may be pertinent)

UI has Student Video Productions, Arts Enterprise, CAB, and Scope (music promotion).

bumpbumpbump

Haaaaaaaaaalp.

I was going to tell you to try at the UIUC and Iowa forums, but saw they sent you here already. To be honest, neither school is on the radar as top film schools, and the problem with transferring to top film schools is they are just as competitive to transfer into, some maybe more so, may give less aid, and may not accept your film courses at either school. If you are intent on transferring be careful what you take in terms of easily transferred courses.
Having been discouraging, the good news is that the secret to success is talent, hard work and making contacts and connections with upper classmen and recently graduated professionals in the business. It can be done, but I think most people feel it is easier to do that in LA, NY, or other centers for film and media.
If you want a grad degree in film, many would advise you to major in something else for undergrad, since the curriculum is pretty redundant. I would guess that admission to Stark and the like is not necessarily improved by a film BA.
Good luck, sorry I couldn’t help more. Maybe Maddenmd, Wheaty or Digmedia would have some insight. OCELITE, advice for a student wanting to transfer to Chapman?

Hey, jtmoney, thank you for all the info.

I know UIUC and Iowa aren’t known for film, but perhaps Iowa for writing —> screenwriting —> film or UIUC business —> entertainment business? I could make it work.

Yes, most internships/jobs in this field are in LA and NY, so I’ll definitely try to relocate.

Of course, before doing any of this, I must first select a college. A starting point.
 So I guess for now I’m back to square 1. UIUC vs. Iowa.
