Hi There

I am an international students and have so far got into
Umich ann arbor
UIUC
Purdue
GATECH(my students services tab has appeaed)

I was wondering if you people could help me out and tell me which of the above is the best for engineering(especially Mechanical, Chemical and Electronics). I, being an international student have no resources other than the US news rankings to find out which is the best. My GPA is 3.85, SAT 1900(CR580, W610, M710, Essay10), SAT2(math2c-770, math1c-740, physics-750), TOEFL CBT- 257/300.

Would really appreciate your help
Thanx!

Hi congrats. These are all great colleges in engineering. Probably you should choose Michigan as overall it has a higher rank than the others. You may change your mind later, you know. An overall higher ranked college means that it has more options. Michigan is good at business and liberal arts-type stuff as well. Mind you Michigan and Illinois are freezing cold in winter. GeorgiaTech has the best weather, and since you are from UAE you might prefer GeorgiaTech. I don't know that much about Purdue.

P.S. Can you please tell me when you applied to Michigan and when you got your acceptance letter... I'd like to know.

Hi pulchritude

I have priv messaged u
chek it out

Anuishp,Congrats! First, I don't know that much about Purdue, The difference in quality of education at other three schools are excellent and career prospects and rank, also no difference. But you have to think about the cost difference and quality of life during the four years. The weather in winter, it's around 23F in Illinois and Michigan. If you hate cold weather, stay away from Illinois or Michigan it's freezing. Atlanta is warmer and it's also a bigger city, with more things to do. Georgia Institute of Technolog is prestige engineering school and nice climate, it's 75F degrees right now, 450-acre campus in the Midtown of Atlanta.

Actually, it's a 650 acre campus. Source: Wikipedia.

There is not much a difference in costs in any of these colleges. They are all State colleges. However the Southern States have lower costs of living. So Illinois and Gatech will come out cheaper overall. Urbana-Champaign is very boring, I don't know about Ann-Arbor. Like Windley mentioned, Atlanta has a great social life.

Look at your own set of interests and what you want to. Since you are heavily interested in engineering, it wouldn't matter which one you went to at all. They are all world class. If you have artistic side as well, then you might prefer Michigan. Since I am deeply interested in music, languages, etc Michigan is also a college I'd consider. In your case, it won't matter. However, you can grow a lot on any of these campuses. They have a lot of societies, a lot of fun. Since you're used to hot weather, Gatech would be the ideal climate. Atlanta is almost like New Delhi.

Pulchritude6 and Windley, thanks for your input.

Even I had the similar problem, but now its all clear.

Georgia Tech it is.
