She is studying History? Sorry I thought she was an English major. Anyway, the Complete University Guide has Durham at No. 2 in the UK (just behind Cambridge) so she is still in great shape! If she has some time before school starts, I would recommend reading Bernard Cornwell’s The Last Kingdom series which is a fictionalised account of the Viking invasion of England at the time of King Alfred. Much of the stories are set in the Northeast of England and book #3 is set in Durham.
@londondad Yes, history - thanks for the book suggestion - will absolutely tell her to read it, she will be excited to do so!
@cloudysmom Congratulations! My guy is going to Edinburgh for History and Archeology. He is so excited to begin!
Not sure if anyone is starting the UK 2019 thread. I am a prospective international student and I had a question so I will post it here.
Is there still a Group A and Group B list for Advanced Placement. I read somewhere that UCAS tariff points and list has changed in 2018. Can someone confirm? I am wondering if AP Micro and AP Macro is still considered 1 AP and same for AP Comp Politics and AP US Politics. I tried LSE website but could not find an answer.
TIA for your guidance
The A/B distinction is gone now, so Micro & Macro and Comp & US Gov each count as 1.
Be aware that some places (notably Oxford) have admissions tutors who still perceive APs as an inferior credential, especially the old ‘B’ ones. At least some Oxford Econ profs are v dismissive of the Econ APs, but Comp Gov is pretty well regarded and is actually useful prep for a UK politics course.
ps: go ahead and start the 2019 thread!
@CuriousInCincy Thats awesome!!! Mine is going to Durham and she is really excited but she LOVED Edinburgh just 1 more yr of school to pay for than we can do but she is likely applying there for grad school
Thanks you @collegemom3717 I will start the UK 2019 thread
