UK Student, US History PhD

Hi all,

First time posterhaving browsed through the site on the odd occassion. I'm basically trying to guage my chances of getting accepted into the following schools, for a History PhD program beginning in Autumn, 2011:
- Princeton
- NYU
- Columbia
- University of Pennsylvania
- Georgetown

My academic record to date is quite mixed. I recently graduated from the London School of Economics with a Distinction (History of International Relations) which I've been told equated to approx 3.8-4.0gpa. However my GRE's weren't so great....V590 Q660 W5.5. I guess the one saving grace is that my written was in the 94th percentile. I've looked into retaking but I'm not sure I'd be able to get my score up, standardised testing is alien to me and even getting the scores above was a struggle at times.

Given these conflicting factors and the fact that my publications to date are limited to two...one of which was my LSE dissertation...what are my chances for the schools above? My knowledge of the US application system is weak at best but I'd hope I'd have a reasonable chance to get into at least a couple of them. I've also got some relevant work experience having served as a researcher in the House of Lords for a year.

Any help would be most appreciated.

thanks.
