UK suggestions please?

I know I probably won't be able to get much financial aid from UK universities, but are there any that you guys think I could have a good shot at getting merit scholarships from?

Objective stats:
3.86 UW/4.6 W GPA
Definitely top 10% of HS class; I think I was in the top 2%, but I'm not completely sure.
SAT I: 2140 (800 W, 740 CR, 600 M)
SAT II: 730 Lit, 710 US History
5 AP classes taken, got all 5's on the test (except a 4 on Micro)

Can you guys suggest any good UK schools that may give me a good merit scholarship?

Thanks! :D

So far as I know, no UK school offers merit scholarships to Americans. The appeal of admitting American for them is that we pay significantly more than their own students do. It ends up costing about the same to attend a private school there as it does here once all the costs are factored in.

If you are looking for less expensive options for an education abroad, check out some of the Canadian universities.

M’s Mom is correct, except that ALL UK universities, except one, are government-funded, so they are public universities, including Cambridge and Oxford.

Well, on the Cambridge website, it says:

“The Cambridge Commonwealth Trust and the Cambridge Overseas Trust offer awards (mostly part-cost) to overseas students, including affiliated students, who have been accepted for admission by a Cambridge College.”

Is that a form of merit aid or…?

No, these are outside scholarships.

These are the scholarships you are eligible for, as a US citizen. Notice how most of them are for postgraduates and come with various caveats (you must be in an MA program at Cambridge, planning to get a PhD/you must hold a first-class degree from X university/etc.). They’re also extremely competitive and mostly non-renewable.

Ah, okay…so I should probably cross UK universities off my list since my family cannot afford to pay much for college?

That would probably be wise, Eiffel. And…um…didn’t you just mention in another thread that you are nervous about the weather in NE ? The UK is hardly the land of sunshine.
Cambridge has some scholarships for Americans, but you should also know that Cambridge (and most UK schools) are rather different from American. At Cambridge (and Oxford), you must choose a course (aka major) when you apply - and swapping to another is not an easy task. St. Andy’s is the most popular UK college for US kids - and presumes that they will be full pay.
