I am going to be a senior in high school this fall, and I am really considering going to the UK for my undergrad. I did the ASA Oxford summer program during the summer before junior year, and I absolutely LOVED Oxford! The college, the city, the classes, everything! I know that completing my undergrad there would be much more different but I think that I would love it...if I could get into Oxford or another UK university.

The problem is that my gpa is really low (5.36/6.0 weighted, and 4.60/5.0 unweighted), and I only took the the AP Euro exam sophomore year which I got a 3 on. :(

This year, I took the AP Biology, AP English, and AP US History. I am expecting 5's on the English and US exams, and hopefully a 4 on the Biology one. But I won't find out for certain until a week or two. What scores would I need to have a chance at Oxford or another UK school?

I am taking 6 AP classes my senior year: AP English, AP Economics: Micro, AP Physics, AP Chemistry, AP Calculus, and AP Spanish. Would some pending 5's be enough for me to get in?

I have not taken the SAT since I live in Illinois, but my ACT score is 34.

I plan on taking SAT II subject tests in the early fall. Any suggestions on what subjects I should take? And whether or not the SAT II would help me to get in?

You should have a look at their requirements page. Oxford requires American students to have at least 3 5s on AP tests OR 3 subjects tests with scores over 700 just in order to even be able to submit an application. If you don’t think you’ll be able to make the 3 5s based on the 3 AP tests you just took, you should definitely start studying up for the subject tests! It looks like you have a background in US History and Bio–why not take those subject tests? Math Level II is also highly desirable, and is easy to score over a 700 on.

Good luck!

Alright, thanks! I’m definately going to try hard on the SAT subject tests then. However, do you think that my gpa will effect my chances?
Does Oxford only look at AP, SAT, and ACT scores or do they also look at gpa? Because I’ve heard either way so I’m not sure.

No GPA, you don’t even send in your transcript! SATs, APs, personal statement, one teacher recommendation, placement test in subject you’re applying for, and interview. That’s the whole process in one sentence.
By the way, you might want to search for the other 500 billion posts on the subject of applying to Oxford For example, check out some of those running now in the Study Abroad section, etc
One very important question, do you know exactly what you want to study and are you willing to study it for 3 years? If the answer is no, you might not want to commit to Oxford bc they require you to commit unlike US schools.

Note there is actually another university in the city of Oxford. It’s called Oxford Brookes and it’s a LOT easier to get in to than Oxford proper. If you want to live in Oxford, this could be an option for you (but it’s a modern university. No ancient buildings).

I’d be wary of choosing any UK school based on a sunny summer study abroad programme. Are you really going to like it in the winter when it’s dark at 4pm and you have to study 60+ hours every week? I like it here but I wouldn’t recommend it on a whim. It’s not a holiday every day. You haven’t even chosen a subject to apply for (no minors, no switching. You have to be SURE) to start with. I don’t want to put you off, but I urge you to consider reality, not fantasy (and don’t forget you will get no financial aid).

This year (jr.) I have 3 APs (AP Environmental/AP Art History/AP US) with 5 and 1 4 (Engl Lang). Last year, AP World-3, AP Human Geography-4. I have a 32 ACT (34 math/36 reading). I also took Community College- Spanish and had A. What is usually there bottom SAT score? I prefer the ACT and probably won’t take SAT. I may take subject tests, since finding schools want those (probably Math 2, US Histry, and maybe Chemistry…for engineering schools). I am 30 out of 818, played alot of sports…big chess player, travelled internationally (lived w/Japanese family) and hosted foreign students at our house. GPA 4.6 weighted. I’ll have to see if they requre SATII’s.
Currently in Science/Math at Carnegie Mellon studying calc, etc.
Do they like diversity?

collegesgirl - none of the stats in your post are relevant to admission to a UK university apart from APs, and they arfe only relevant if realted to the subject you intend to apply for. e.g. If you intend to apply for a science subject, they will ignore all of them, but would consider English, History and maybe art history of you applied for English.
