College decision between UK and Indiana University---any advice or opinions?

Hi,

I guess it all depends on what you are looking for in a school and want you want to study! My son is a sophomore at UK and likes it, although he still isn’t sure what he wants his major to be. Thankfully, there are plenty of options at both schools.

I have heard wonderful things about the business program at IU. A good friend of mine has a daughter that attends there and they say the campus is beautiful. UK is a nice campus with a well-blended mixture of buildings and lots of spirit.

Overall, my take is that IU has a better academic program/reputation. UK is working on bringing theirs up and it’s working. It was a perfect fit for my son. The climates are different, too. More snow at IU I would imagine. Some snow at UK, but not much.

I would say just look into the program that you are interested in and see which one is best. Also, where did you ‘feel’ like you fit in the best? Both have friendly, down-to-earth kids. Best of luck in your search! It’s a fun time in your life!

IU is more of a smaller “college town” feel imo…Lexington feels a bit bigger and a little less centered around the college, although I’m sure UK is important to the city. IU seemed smaller to my daughter too–she didn’t care for it. Although I loved it! So…the universities are probably similiar, the surroundings aren’t. Just an opinion!
