Ultimate Multi-Tasking- Learn New Vocabulary Words and Feed the Poor!!!

This morning on NPR they had a great story on a guy that built computer program that is a vocabulary test for son to use for SAT study. He then hooked it with his non-profit and the advertising monies from the site are being used for a hunger non-profit. It has been used already so much that they donated enough rice to feed 350,000 people for a month. Nice story

NPR : Net Game Boosts Vocabulary, Fights Hunger

That game is fun!
But I always hover in the upper thirties, it's so annoying~ never gone past 42 in the past couple minutes-pretty sad, coz you start at 41

This is great idea. I love philantrophy.

I think I'll try to spread the word of this program to my school.

Freerice is awesome.

this is actually more addictive than you would think, and I've learned quite a few words already lol.

I hit 42.

I need some free rice...

Yeah it is addictive I been doing for the past couple hours and yesterday. Yesterday I got up to like 40,000 grains of rice, and today I'm at 8000. I guess I'm improving.

My top score is 42. I just wonder if I'm retaining it.

50! (after 2480 grains of rice; yes, I'm sadly obsessed).

They changed a bunch of the words, I think: I saw a lot I hadn't seen before tonight. Hooray for switching it up! Freerice is wonderful, I agree.

Bump!!!! This is an awesome way to study for the SAT. It would be perfect for freshman and sophomores who want to do some casual preparation...

These words are freaking hard... I can't break 46 :( Whoever hits 50 is amazing! Btw, note: when you're in the upper 40s, the words you get are nothing like what you will find on the SAT, thank god.

Did anybody else notice that the total amount of rice given on Christmas was lower than any other day this month? Hmm...

Are these words any good for the SAT?

And also, how often do the words repeat?

I just did a few questions and I found that most of the words were good for the SAT. Generally if it is adjective or descriptive word, such as sepulchral or acrimony, it is probably important, but a noun, such as culvert, it is less important.

If you're taking the SAT soon, definitely just go for a Kaplan review book or something like that.

But this game is fun and helpful to play when you're bored or whatever.

Again, the words are good unless you're talking about words above 42/43ish level. Then they begin to become really obscure. At that point, we're all deconstructing them to look for latin roots and things, unless we've come across them before in reading. But then again, if you can stay consistently at or above a 45, you probably won't need SAT vocab prep anyway. I think the words in the high 20s and 30s are good SAT vocab practice though.
