I'm not an expert about the admissions at UM, but I am also applying there and my stats are 3.9 UW GPA (4.2 or 4.3 weighted, not sure) and 27 ACT (eeekk) but tons of experience acting on my intended major of journalism (internship, freelancing job, editor in chief, etc). People tell me that I'll probably get in. So all considered, I think it is still a reach for you. Is your unweighted GPA very low? Because your weighted GPA is pretty low. If your SATs increase to over 2000 then you will have a better chance. Study hard for them because that could make or break your chances.

Good luck! Oh, and if you are sure on UM then you should have applied Early Decision!! I applied Early Action (not binding).

its a reach but not by much...as for the 27 act lindsay, there is no "probably get in", a 27 act is under their 25th percentile so I dont see how you have a great shot.

the SAT is the strongest part of your application i think.. so idk what your chances are for miami.. i would say reach to 50/50...unfortunately ur ECs dont come across as too strong 9even with lack of school funding).. however if u can parlay this into a strong essay.. or if u have a strong essay.. with good recommendations.. and you improve ur SATs.. i say u have a 75% shot (depending on how much u improve ur SATs by).. good luck

All I'm saying is that the people who chanced me on my thread said I'll probably get in. Like I said before, I don't know how UM's admissions office works. My link to my thread is on my first response to this thread. Read it.

public schools with HUGE applicant pool look at straight numbers first (or so im told).. then for borderline applicants the extras are the deciding factors.. unfortunately "bubby" didnt mention anything about his demanding courses so its hard to say..

Freshmen Academic Profile
SAT - Critical Reading Middle 50%: 570-670
SAT - Math Middle 50%: 590-680
TPR Projected Range SAT Writing: 620-700
ACT Composite Midldle 50%: 25-30
Average High School GPA: 4.04

Seems like you need a high GPA and a somewhat average ACT to get into Miami....... so that's why I have a good chance of getting in. My ACT score is not in the 25th percentile.

Back to Bubby. The only thing holding you back is your GPA. Will your senior year grades improve your GPA? What is your unweighted GPA? If your SATs improve a lot, like I said before, your chances will increase. In addition, your ECs are fairly weak. I see no commitment to one specific EC, as well as no honors/awards. What are you planning on majoring in? It's not too late, if you haven't already turned in your application to do community service (maybe now, over break) to an organization that relates to your interests.

To answer people's questions... I have always tried to take the hardest classes possible. Here's the breakdown:
9th grade, no Honors classes (damn school wouldn't let me take any), 3.1 weighted thereabout
10th grade, still no Honors classes, but I took Physics, 2.6-2.7 GPA (ouch! That is what is holding me back)
Transferred to another school to 11th grade, Honors English, Trigonometry, AP World History (4 on the exam, eligible for credit, yay!), Journalism (worked for school newspaper) Honors Chemistry (A+), Honors everything else, 3.7 GPA
12th grade, 4 Aps... Ap Chem, Ap English Lit, Ap Calculus AB, AP US History, currently holding a 4.1 GPA

As you can see, I've had a few setbacks in 10th grade, but I have had a tremendous improvement after transferring to my new school.

I am also an expert ceramicist, and am also planning to show to the admissions office a few examples of my creations.

By the way, nationally, my SAT score is in the 88th percentile, and my ACT is in the 86th percentile. ACT scores are apparently not linear. And within the state of Florida, my SAT percentile is in the upper 90s.

lindsey seems like you feel you have to justify your chances to us. it doesn't matter how much data you give us. i was just trying to say that your scores are a bit weak but in the end what i say wont matter. good luck!

yo wasup im from florida too. and my stats look exactly like yours! 3.35 uw gpa/3.7wgpa, 1940 sat exactly, and my freshman and sophmore year is holding me back dam like 3.4 wgpa, 3.0 uw. some clubs here and there, i changed highschools my junior year and im taking 6 ap's senior year and holding around a 4.1/4.3. what other schools are you applying to in florida? im applying to UF, UCF, and FSU, im not really applying to UM because i have 100% bright futures so im gonna take advantage of that. good luck man.
