So i was looking in a act book and there are multiple tests and score charts for each of them but the reading conversion is really weird.. It has a huge variance.. Apparently a 28 out of 40 on the reading sectiona converts to a scaled score from anywhere from 22-27. That just sounds really messed up i mean how can it have a 5 point scaled score range that is huge!! im retaking my act and last time my scaled score was a 21. This time i am aiming for about a 25 scale score on reading. What raw score would you say is a 25, generally??

Plus I believe a 22 is extremely unfair for answering 28 questions right. You answer 70% of the reading test right and your scared score is only 61.1 percent? Come on.

You’re right that the scales fluctuate. I would however say, that a 28/40 on reading is around a 24-25 on a regular test. You must realize that the scale score and raw score really have nothing to do with each other, so it’s not right to judge the validity of the fairness by that standard. And, what book are using to convert the scales?

Scaled and raw scores are determined by predetermined “curves” for each test.

The “easier” the test, the harsher the “curve.”
