UM and residency

Today Michigan sent me a letter telling me that I need to apply for residency status (and, until I do and am confirmed as a resident, am considered a non-resident - the application process is ongoing.)

Personally, I think this kind of thing is ludicrous - I've attended middle school and high school in the same town in MI. My parents work here, I own a house here. I meet all the criteria available based on the application. There is no reason that I can see that would imply I shouldn't be a resident.

Furthermore, I am deeply confused by the residency application, available at

<a href="http://www.umich.edu/%7Eregoff/resreg.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.umich.edu/~regoff/resreg.html</a></p>

For example, the things they require from me actually fall in the category of things that don't prove residency?

Anyone else in this situation?
Any advice?

Why do you think they're asking you for proof of residency? There must be something. Are you an international? Did your parents file income taxes in another state? In any case, if you meet all the criteria, then you've got nothing to worry about.

Don't sweat it Tetrahedron. Just send in all the official documents they request and you will qualify as an in-state applicant.

Just send all the documents, good luck

Yeah I had to do this too because my dad isn’t a Michigan resident. I don’t know what your issue is though.
But I have a question. Does this mean that my application is considered turned in when they check the residency stuff in? Because I got all my other stuff 3 weeks ago and that would suck.

Reviving a four year old thread because…

it’s fun (10 chars)

because I have a question?

My post wasn’t aimed at you^
