We're attending the April 5 Campus Day from CA. Beyond the standard tour, are there any must-sees or must-do's on campus or in town? Any great restaurants or local haunts? We want the full experience. Thank you!

I’m not sure how long you are staying but theree is a softball game against Ohio on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon and baseball against MSU on Saturday afternoon. Public skating at Yost Thursday and Friday evenings and Saturday afternoon.

Restaurant ideas all over the site. Near campus favorites are Pizza House, Cottage Inn, Angelos and Sava’s. Downtown you can find Gratzi, Palio, Cafe Zolla and Prickly Pear. North of Campus is Zingermans.

Thursday evening is the Golden Award presentation for Pysch prof Shelly Schreier.

There are probably a lot of cultural events during the evenings but I don’t know what is planned for this weekend.

This is great, thank you. Do you know if people can tour the Big House in general? Can’t find it in the campus day schedule.

We ate at Red Hawk, Sava’s, Mani, and Zingerman’s Deli… recommend them all! YUM!

@granipic Thank you. If I remember, you are also looking at UT. We are down to UM, UT and USC. Is there a thread you posted in about your child’s decision? Thanks.

Afternoon Delight for breakfast. You must eat their cinnamon caramel bread. Or chocolate chip pancakes.

Blue Tractor is great at dinner, not as good at lunch.

Also, if you are driving, watch for pedestrians. They tend to not look up, even when jaywalking or walking into intersections before the walk signal!

Zingerman’s is kind of a must. Don’t rush if you go, because there is usually a long line. You can order ahead, too.

Savas is delish, as is Fritas Batitos.

Even if you can’t get into the Big House, do drive by. It is pretty awesome. Check out the Law Quad, too.

One of the fun things to see is the rock on Washtenaw. Every time we go, it has another coat of paint on it! Daughters team painted it a couple weeks ago, which is a fun tradition.

Much to see. Have fun!

Osserpusser… I am a UT grad, sadly, S did not apply even though he was auto admit because they do not offer his intended major. SAD SAD Longhorn mama here! Good luck with your decision, don’t think you can go wrong with any of those choices!

And a quick note on Zingermans… we arrived at 11 a.m. NO LINE… about 30 minutes later, it was wrapped around the building, so timing seems to be the key.

Basement Arts is putting on a show this weekend - they usually do two shows on Friday nights. It’s the student-run theatre. Free of charge.

You can always go spend some time in a university museum. The Art Museum is quite nice and will easily fill up an hour or two of your time. It is also right in the heart of campus.

Well there’s this basketball game on TV I heard about Saturday night…

I LOVE these threads! I always learn of new places, even though I’ve lived in the area for over 20 years.

Once, I had a baby at UM hospital and my friend tried to have some Zingerman’s delivered to my room, only to be told that they don’t do deliveries. However, they DO do catering. So she had a meal “catered” to my room.

Man, I love her…

Definitely THE place to be this coming Saturday. I assume the OP’s prospective student is under 21, so a sports bar is a no-go. Any suggestions as to the best places on or near campus to watch the game with some spirited Michigan students and fans?

We watched the game at the Brown Jug (basically a diner w/ beer too) on South University on 3/23 and it was a blast. Lord knows how early you would need to get there to get a table…

Pizza House or BWW

Jug and Skeeps are gonna be 21+ by the time the game tips most likely. So like ^ said Bdubs and Pizza House are probably gonna be the way to go but they’ll be packed.

Thanks, all. We’ll be on a plane during the game, but this is turning out to be quite an exciting time to be there!

I would make sure you check out north campus, it is very possible you are going to live there, i think the percentage is around 60% of incoming freshman live on north. Also if you are interested in rushing in the fall check out the fraternity’s and sororities, they are pretty scattered but a good amount of them are up by oxford

Skeeps… 21+… hahahaha. That gave me a good laugh.

Just back and you all made our trip! Wow, the power of the Internet! Zingermans is a must, both for atmosphere and food. Fritas Batitas, Cottage Inn, Red Hawk, Savas and Grazi were all fun. We saw the rock, painted fresh each day, all campuses, the fraternities/sororities, the Arb, and the gorgeous Law Quad. And we were thrilled to get a private tour of the Big House arranged by a former player. This place is HUGE and definitely worth the visit!
