Um...Yale Alumni Interview...

So...I have an interview with a Yale alumni this weekend. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions, especially from those who have been interviewed? My specific questions:

*What should I wear? Casual stuff? Semi-formal? I'm a guy, btw...
*What should I bring? Resume? Slides of projects? Writing samples? Anything at all?
*What should I ask? Questions towards social life? Classes? Campus experience?
*What questions should I be ready to answer?
*What experiences did any other Yale interviewees get when they got interviewed?

ANY help or tips would really appreciated. Thank you very much!!

Ok, well I can't speak generally but this is how it went for me:

As for dress, I'm a girl so I can't talk there but my interviewer (a guy) wore a button-down shirt with slacks (same with my harvard guy).

I did bring a resume but he never asked for it and I didn't give it to him at the end.

I asked about his campus experiences--he REALLY loved talking about the school--and just things about Yale in general. this one is kinda more personal: what do YOU want to know about the school?

He asked me about the basics: classes, my school, family. He also asked about my favorite books...there were more but I can't remember sorry. I was interviewed twice (first on campus and second by an alum) but they asked the same questions because they all get a master list of acceptable questions (my second interviewer told me this).

Good luck and don't worry! Just be yourself and you'll be fine :)

Thanks, cinnamon9724. Um...the interview is at a Starbucks. Should I be drinking Starbucks at all? I'm planning on getting there about 15 minutes beforehand...so...yeah...

Mine was at Starbucks too. I would recommend not drinking or eating anything...it hinders the conversation. And yes getting there early is key! Then the interviewer has to find you and you don't look like an idiot approaching random middle-aged men :) Bring a book, so then you're not staring awkwardly at every potential interviewer walking through the door.

Yeah, true. I was just gonna have the Starbucks sit there though...it feels weird to walk into a Starbucks and not get anything.

I'm not sure I did this correctly but I tried to copy a link to another thread with lots of good advice on this topic.

Cool thanks for that link!

can you get an alumni interview after already having had an on-campus interview?

prophet--Look at the RD Applicants: Interview Advice thread linked above.

yea sorry about this guys but i couldn't really find anything related to my case in the link above. again -- and sorry for repeating myself -- is it possible to have an alumni interview after having an on-campus interview?

no need to research for me, but if you can quickly glance up an answer, hit me.

the prophet--post your question again in the RD Applicants thread and I'll answer it. I'm trying to make that one thread the place where all questions are answered.

yes, to answer your question, prophet :)

I recently got contacted for an interview but I forgot to write down my interviewer’s name. How serious is this? What can I do?

I don’t think that should be a problem, Taxidriver. He/she may email you or call you again to confirm and then you can record his/her name. Otherwise, no need to address the person by their name when you meet with them :)

Anyone applying to Yale within ~50 miles of Columbus, OH: Did you get an alumni interview? I didn’t, and I don’t know whether this is because they don’t want me or just because they don’t have anyone in this area (which the email said might happen).

Please use old threads for information only, do not post and revive them.

Instead use the New Thread button to ask your question, or look for similar recent threads, for example:
