whose still waiting on admissions decision? wonder if it matters that the application went in the last day it was due?
Still waiting. Umass is on spring break this week, maybe office is closed? App submitted in Dec.
A guy on reddit received his decision on Tuesday morning.Don’t know if it was automated tho.
Anyone still waiting to hear from Umass Amherst? My daughter has not heard yet. She submitted her application pretty close to the deadline. I hope she didn’t miss it ?!
I have not heard back yet either. Submitted 12/29/18 so I wasn’t too late. Many of my classmates have heard back already so I’m not sure what’s up.
I submitted in mid November regular decision and haven’t heard anything yet.
My daughter is still waiting on a decision.
What is the biggest OOS scholarship someone got?
submitted december still waiting
It is so painful waiting! How much longer do people think it will go on?
I just got the Accepted Student’s day email, so I am assuming the decision will come out soon so that it doesn’t fill up without you guys having the chance to sign up.
Just called admissions and asked if any decisions will be released this week? The answer I got, “I don’t know, they will release them when they’re ready.” I then asked, “Do you know when the final decisions for the year will come out?” The answer, “ oh the process can go through April” :-w
Bizymum, thanks for doing that and posting. I was tempted to do the same but was afraid I’d get that answer! So we keep waiting. In the meantime I had my daughter accept at another school “just in case”.
Woah, wait a minute. I was under the impression you could make your decision for pretty much ALL schools in late April, as long as it’s before or on May 1. Isn’t accepting an offer from another school that you may plan to retract a bad thing? Or does this school have a March acceptance requirement?
I’m now a little worried because we don’t plan to accept anything until mid or late April, since we’re waiting on appeals and all.
@HankCT …I think 3girlsandadog is just making the decision to deposit somewhere now. I think most schools give you until May 1 to request a full refund ( but double check with each school).
We are going next week to accepted students day at another school and also plan on making the deposit. If my son does Not get into UMassA… no harm no foul - his decision is made and his deposit is made. If he does get accepted to UMassA - The only deciding factor is going to be cost. He really does like the other school at least equally as much as UmassA ( maybe even a little bit more! Nonetheless we expect that UmassA will be half the cost for us) - no matter; we will have until May 1 to request a full refund from the other school. I spoke to my son and he said he would just feel better at this point having a deposit down and feeling like he has a plan in place. We agree and so have decided that next weekend we will make the decision to deposit at the other school.
Honestly, I said earlier on this feed that I already have a son at UMass Amherst. He transferred in as a Junior through MassTransfer and is very happy there. We do feel like he’s getting a good education, but this whole experience has completely turned me off to UMass Amherst! I am not buying it that they have too many applicants to manage this better. My youngest son also applied to Ohio State and got an immediate decision. When my oldest son went through this he Applied to Syracuse, Northeastern, Cornell and about 8 others. All had very efficient admissions decision processes. I do not believe for one minute that it is because of the number of applications If it is then they need to hire more admissions people And give up some of the Ludacris bonuses that were disclosed in an article earlier on this thread. I think it is a smart business plan because they send decisions out in waves; wait several weeks to get acceptances or declines. Then they send out another wave - Wash, rinse repeat and then they are able to completely fill the freshman class. They prioritize the international and out of state students because of the money they bring In. And then they put their in-state students through all of this. Yes I think it is a great school, but I consider this somewhat unethical. I am sure for most of us on this thread sending our children to college is a very heavy financial lift and emotional process. Having ample time to make the final decision, process the emotions that go with that And then preparing to leave home is a really big deal for these kids. With one kid at UMassL and one already at UmassA; I personally am disappointed in UmassA for the way their admissions are managed…
Bizymum I totally agree with all of that. The deposit I put down was only about $330 and we had to do it so she could sign up for housing (Penn State Harrisburg where they only have enough housing for 10% of freshman, and it’s first come first served). if my daughter does happen to get into Umass I’ll be more than happy to lose that deposit because a) I think Umass is a better school, all things considered and b) it will be MUCH cheaper because we are in-state
But if she doesn’t get into Umass which seems more and more likely as each day goes by, at least she has another option. My daughter applied to 10 schools, all RD and has heard from every singl one except Umass and Syracuse. And most of them were big schools with lots of applicants
@3girlsandadog best wishes to your daughter! Her options all sound promising!!! ?
