I’m a high school junior and I want to go to UMass Amherst; but I’m worrying about my chances. Here’s some information.
At the end of junior year I’ll have:
4.1 Weighted GPA
3.8 Unweighted GPA
27 composite on the ACT
Extra-Curriculars:
Junior marshal (top 10% of class)
3 years on student council
3 years on church youth council
1 year on county youth council
Club founder
Volunteer club: vice-president (1 year)
Beta club (3 years)
Mu Alpha Theta (2 years)
I’m wondering about my chances, and what my odds are of getting in. If anyone can help, that would be great. Thank you for your time.
I got accepted both for freshman year and as a transfer and your stats seem similar if not better than mine! What major are you applying to? And are you in state?
No I’m not in state. I’m from the southern U.S., the Carolinas. I would apply to major in economics or public administration. Thanks for your reply! @Dogsshouldvote
Out of state could go either way also. Public schools like to have students who pay fully out of state tuition but at the same time if you can’t pay the OOS price that affects you actually going there. Their Economics program is competitive but not as competitive as Isenberg from what I understand. I’d check the website a bit more when looking at what they look at for their economics program. We also do not have a public administration program for undergrad from what I can tell but I believe there is a masters program. So overall I think you can get in with your stats but whether or not you’ll get into the program you want I think maybe a bit more of a toss-up.
I think you will be completely fine. I got into Isenberg OOS with a high scholarship with a similar GPA and 1420 SAT score (from what I could find online, about a 32 ACT). Econ and public administration are not identified as selective programs like Isenberg so you may have chances at even higher scholarship than me. Don’t let the people on here scare you ;).
I think you’ll get in just fine. UMass also lowers their academic requirements a little bit for OOS students, but not by much. They also give pretty good scholarships to OOS students.
