@redpoodles I would like to applaud your D for releasing the schools she knows she is no longer considering! Too bad everyone doesn’t do that. It would open a whole lot of spots for other kids who really want to attend a school and save parents a lot of money come May 1st when we put down deposits at schools and then get called off of a waitlist after the money is gone.
@BLJ123 and @redpoodles - Totally agree with benefit to all for kids to release their spots. Just as we await a college’s decision, they’d like to hear from us after acceptance. I’ve encouraged my son to do the same and he has been reaching out to those being crossed off his list.
BLJ123 - we feel and share your pain! I hope it is comforting to know you are not alone! Thankfully DS was accepted to one (yes only 1) school I can see him attending, the other school being his safety. If it wasn’t for that school, I would be going crazy! I want an acceptance from UMass so we can make a real side by side comparison. Since he was waitlisted to the remaining schools we will be holding off on declining offers at this point.
If I had a do over (should haves, would haves) I would have recommended DS apply to more schools". Six seemed plenty but there was that tricky curved ball called “waitlist”.
Also nothing in the mailbox today. Only one more day in March… 8-| :-S
@SQBrit yes, I actually have been comforted to know I’m not alone! The son waiting for Umass has 2 acceptances but only one is a real option for him and we also are waiting for Umass to make the decision. The other S has had only 1 acceptance and waitlisted everywhere else…BU was a curve ball for him as they offered a guaranteed transfer for fall 2016, so it’s kind of a safety if he doesn’t like where he goes. If tomorrow doesn’t go in his favor he is left with his safety…and he’s the one we thought would be the easier of the two and most were ‘match’ schools.
oh well! Tomorrow is another day!
The waiting is killing me
When I received my acceptance letter, my portal still said “Under Review”. About 5 days later, my portal changed to the Congratulations thing. So it’ll take some time to change if that’s what you’re worried about.
P.S. I don’t live in America but I am American. So I’m OOS.
Big envelope in the mail today! Finally!! Saving it for DS to open when he gets out of school but I’m thinking it’s a YES!
^ Maybe that means ill have mines today too.
Im in state and still haven’t heard back.
At this point I just want to know!
@BostonSportsFan I hope you do as well! Fingers crossed and good luck! We are OOS
@BLJ When did your DS’s spire change from deferred to under review?
@logan713 he wasn’t deferred, just RD. Spire has said “under review” since they received his application at the end of December
"Thank you for your email. We have begun to mail out decision letters and will continue to send them out over the next few weeks. We mail out approximately 3500 letters 2-3 times per week, and have a record 41,000 to send this year. There is no particular order to how they are released. SPIRE accounts are updated 10 days after decisions are mailed out.
Best of luck!"
Just got this response yesterday.
@BLJ123 - hurrah hurrah for you! That’s great news. What a relief. But don’t have have another DS who is waiting to hear back? We are still waiting.
Hey guys I just got accepted! Received an $8000 scholarship too for OOS. I posted a chance if you want to see my stats.
Still nothing here in MA.
Did you get a notification on the portal?
@SQBrit thank you! He didn’t get into his major though, they offered him undeclared in a new “Exploritory Track”, which apparently is new for fall this year. Will need to look into it further since he really wants CS and was offered that at the other two schools he got into. If he can transfer into CS as his major it will be worth considering, if not I don’t see him considering it.
The other DS was waiting for an ivy and since the emails came out at 5:00pm has refused to check his email as of yet. He’s not too confident of an acceptance with all the waitlists he’s had so far so he’s in no hurry to read it! He has 1 acceptance and the rest waitlists and the guarantee transfer to BU next fall so he may have no other option right now.
I applied EA in November and was deferred for nursing. My SPIRE just changed from “Deferred to regular consideration” to “under review” today. This is the only school for which I am still waiting on a decision. I am a patient person, but 5 months of opening my mailbox expecting to see a letter from UMass and the subsequent disappointment “makes Jack a dull boy.” If it’s a rejection, so be it. Just send me the letter already so that I can decide to go elsewhere.
@TheLastStooge A previous poster said it best before: being deferred sucks! I’m sorry but I think your late review notice indicates exactly that: they have just started to review your application. My DS was changed to “under review” last Tuesday so I am hoping for news this week. Ironic that the deferred candidates go to the back of the line, isn’t it? I’m sure they have a good reason for this approach but to me it seems a little unfair. Their excuse for dragging this out is a record ## of applications. That might work in MA where we have a lot of sympathy for miscreants but doesn’t fly with the rest of the country that has some common sense. Wake up UMass Amherst - all state schools are receiving record ## of applications and the trend keeps going up. So what are you going to do differently?
S is STILL waiting. My gosh this is just awful. Every day he checks the mailbox & his SPIRE (just in case the letter was lost in the mail) & every day there is nothing. I am pretty sure he has written off UMass, but I think there is still a small sliver of hope. Whether it be a yes or a no, just tell him already!
