UMass Amherst Class of 2020 Decision Thread

I hope my S gets accepted. His stats are 1910 SAT(superscore), 3.7 GPA, strong essay, strong recommendation letters, lots EC, lots CS, mostly AP/Honors classes and 35 out of 253. I would love input on if you guys think he stands a chance at being accepted. Thank you.

Got in! ACT 30, 8 APs, 4.08 GPA, no ranking, and strong recs. I applied for linguistics. Lols idk if anyone else did. I checked Spire today but I have been out of the country for vacation so haven’t checked my physical mail. Apparently they won’t tell you if you got into honors college online :(. These stats also got me into Lewis and Clark

@Larensea Woo! Nice. Hope I got into honors college as well

To be honest Umass- Amherst has one the most disappointing ways of declaring decisions. In gods name why are they sending decisions by mail when internet exists >:P I applied EA there. Got my acceptances from everywhere but the place I applied earlier most ( Umass ) still on a hang.

Daughter accepted as pre-med major and honors college. Out of state with a $10k scholarship. Many AP classes and leadership positions and volunteer hours. Many EC’s. w GPA is 4.1 and ACT of 29. Was notified by snail mail on Dec 17th with last name starting with “S”. Also accepted to Drexel Honors, UNH Honors. Waiting for RD at Northeastern and Brown.

for all those accepted so far… when did you apply?

Was just accepted into the nursing program today with a 3.85 UW GPA, 4.6 W, and 2300 SAT
Is there a separate notification for the honors program, or is it enclosed in the large envelope?

@mndt38 it’s supposed to be in the large envelope…

@collegebanana Well, I guess I didn’t get into the honors program, then… Oh, well!

@mndt38 neither did I… it’s surprising because your stats seem way above the CHC baseline… I didn’t get in either. 4.1/5 W gpa, 35 ACT. does anyone think appealing the decision would work?

@collegebanana Maybe they do it based on major? I know a lot of schools admit the top 10% or so of applicants from each school within the college. Nursing is supposed to be extremely competitive, so I guess it could be harder to get into honors for my major. Your stats seem way above a lot of people’s who received honors as well! Which major did you apply for?

@mndt38 i did biochemistry… not sure how competitive that is

I spoke with them this morning. Letters are still going out over the next two weeks. They weren’t all mailed at once. My S’s friend was notified on Spire yesterday. No letter yet. We are in state. Keeping fingers crossed for a notification soon. He heard from his other 2 EA schools, both private and both in state.

If anybody has gotten their acceptance in the mail today, what’s the first letter of your last name?

Received yesterday - B

Oct time frame for all the EA deadlines; as soon as common app was available.

Received yesterday - Last name starts with L

Daughter received admission on spire and in mail yesterday. Isenberg SOM. Last name -W

Accepted to computer science major with Chancellors scholarship $10,000/yr. spire changed to accepted on dec 24. just got letter today, was out of town. it was dated 12/19. 4.17 W gpa, sat 1340 CR+M. last name- H OOS

Got rejected via spire this morning and honestly totally shocked. 27 ACT, 3.4 weighted GPA, 2 varsity sports/ class president (3 years) and wrote a strong essay. Is there anyway to appeal a rejection? UMass is my top school and I completely didn’t expect this I am devastated.
