UMass Amherst Class of 2020 Decision Thread

My son got accepted today in to the CS program. 3.75 GPA 1900 on SATs. $8,000 scholarship. Question: Do you get a letter separately for the honors college?

I believe an invitation to the honors college would have accompanied your son’s acceptance.

I got in!

Congrats to all who got in!! I really don’t know what’s up, I submitted on time and have good stats (2200). I just want one freakin acceptance lol

I think it’s harder to get honors for CS major. My S has 4.17 gpa, 1340 m+r sat, high achieving hs with many AP classes including cs. Placed in county, state and competed in nationals for computer problem solving fbla etc…accepted before xmas with $10,000/yr scholarship but no offer for honors.

Son accepted yesterday college of engineering. Applied October 30th. OOS SAT 2040, GPA UW4.02, W 4.32
Chancellors scholarship 12,000/yr. Comes in a big white envelope. Good luck everyone and congrats to those that have heard back.

Has anyone who applied to the College of Natural Sciences heard yet?

ReRe568 - My son was accepted as a Chemistry major yesterday. $10k scholarship. OOS. Good luck!

Thanks for the update MedDad2020! Congrats to your son! My son applied for Physics/Astronomy, we are in state. Hoping to hear soon.

Accepted to UMass today! To the Isenberg School of Management

To anyone who has low stats, please don’t get discouraged. I’ve been following this thread along with many others for a few months now and my GPA is TERRIBLE compared to any of the people posting here, but I still got into a competitive school and a competitive program.

Does anybody know how competitive nursing is compared to their other competitive programs (Isenberg or computer science, for example)?

ReRe568 - My daughter was accepted as an Environmental Sciences major yesterday. Chancellor’s scholarship. OOS as well.

I wonder when I am going to find out…?

I believe applications were due November 1st and decisions were expected to release on December 15th. It’s ridiculous that it is now mid-January and applications are still under review. This school seems to be very unorganized - but, sadly, the wait must continue. Good luck to everyone! I share your frustration.

UMass admissions has always stated that decisions would be released from mid-December through mi-January. The Spire portal says the same thing. They have been following this schedule. So, while I can understand it may be frustrating to not hear until the end of that period, I think UMass has set expectations accordingly. We’re going through the same process with Wisconsin - Madison. Their notification period is spread out as well. But they set our expectations. My daughter is in their initial notification period and still has not heard from them. I realize it can be hard to wait when others are hearing decisions.

I still didn’t get mine today… Should I be worried?

My D got in yesterday via USPS but portal has not changed. Undeclared with 3.7 GPA and 31 ACT. No scholarship/no Honors college yet got into a highly selective NESCAC school where she will be attending.

@Cjs1058 They should have more decisions to send out later on, so you should get your decision eventually, though I’m not sure when since UMass is very weird with sending out decisions. When did your spire status change to under review?

@mcr976 This is CRAZY to me… A kid can get accepted into a NESCAC school but not offered scholarship(s) and/or Honors programs at a Public State University! Apparently UMass has exactly what they “need”.

Oh, and, congratulations to your D, good for her!!

Son accepted yesterday in History ($6 K scholarship). He is OOS from elite public school, 3.3 GPA, no APs (but lots of Honors), 28 combined ACT, varsity rowing, other significant ECs are NOLS-Alaska, working 15-20 hours per week, and volunteering. Applied November 15. Good luck.
