UMass will send your decision via snail mail only. Then after a few days (sounds like 7 to 10 possibly), Spire will be updated with a decision. My daughter received her acceptance in the mail this past Monday. Her Spire account has not been updated yet to reflect this.
But @Themclos @whale567 received the decision via email
@abhiyo - I apologize for the miscommunication - I meant to type I THINK all decisions are mailed
@Themclos - I received a decision by email
With no spire update, how does one decline the acceptance?
@mcr976 I would call just to give it the personal touch… Or, email them and let them know your your decline notifications will be going out through mid March. Do I sound bitter? I am not really, just kind of a wiseaxx at heart. Not often these kids get to be in the “driver seat” so to speak…
my daughter received her letter in the mail (Honors College, $2000, In state) No update on Spire yet.
@ithinkitskatie no, my son’s app was processed 10/30, no word yet either.
@whales567 - are you an international student? I have only seen that students are informed via snail mail.
Did you hear snail mail or SPIRE from Isenberg? Congratulations!
@kateokh congratulations! Did you hear via snail mail or SPIRE from Isenberg?
My letter was released on Jan 6th.
Apparently there is a UMass envelope waiting for my D to arrive home today…
It seems like a lot of students and parents are really frustrated with the rolling process at schools like Umass and Penn State, and these schools might actually be losing really amazing future students as a result. I have read countless posts about families “moving on” since they have already heard from many other schools who really want them, and seem to have their act together better than these schools. It does seem crazy to me that students with stats well above the schools 50% percentile (and even above the 75%) who applied very early on (some in September) have not yet received decisions, yet others with much lower stats who applied much later, even on the deadline, have heard back with an admit. I can understand the frustration. And many kids who seem to qualify for Honors have not received an invite. And webpages taking 10 days to update? There doesn’t seem to be a good excuse for that in this day. I think that these schools should take a good look at their process and realize that they might be suffering from a backwards system.
I have thought about just moving on, since my excitement for possibly getting into UMass has plummeted since it’s been so long since I applied and so many others have already received acceptances while I’m still waiting, but the only other school I’m seriously considering like to to is 35k per year after my scholarship, so I’m really relying on getting into UMass so I won’t go into so much debt.
Jamie- it’s always good to have a plan B, but don’t give up yet. These state schools often do not have the resources that private colleges do, and such a humongous pool of applicants to go through in a hopefully thorough manner. It’s better to get a slow yes than a quick no, even if a bit frustrating. When you get out if school there is a lot of hurry up and wait as well when going for jobs, so this is good practice. It is not 1/15 yet, so hang in there. Your plan to be as debt free as possible is a good one!
@mchanny I got it through snail mail and spire hasn’t been updated yet
Has anyone been rejected?
Is it true they are looking more at extracurricular and essay? I hope so!
My last question what is the lowest GPA and ACT score these days that they are accepting?
2 more days… I really want to know, since if I get in I don’t need to apply to any of my safety schools.
