My D applied in December and is still “under review” and has been for a month solid. Her top choice was BU, received word today she was guaranteed a spot for 2017 as a transfer. Accepted to Emmanuel with 32,000k in merit, and denied from Northeastern.
At this point, we are freaking out on how long Umass is taking. Is this normal?
Stats, not bad. In state, 26 ACT, 1750 SAT, (low test scores are killing her this year) Solid non weighted 4.0 Gpa. Honors and AP. NHS. GSA member and LGBT+ activist. Rank 14 out of 1,100 kids. Recipient of the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship. Peer mediator, peer mentor, senior executive, project bread volunteer, Baystate animal corporation volunteer, peer tutor.
Long story short, what are the poor kid’s chances? It’s sad that they are telling our kids, “Hey, it doesn’t really matter how hard you try for 12 years, it all boils down to 2 test scores”
We are waiting for our D’s decision from UMass as well, it’s been the same, “under review”, in state from the south shore, and the wait is torturous.
We are waiting as well-In state, applied in November for Engineering. This is the last school we are waiting on, we found out 3 schools last week. We were hoping this past Friday we would know. We would like to make some decisions but have to wait for UMASS before we can proceed. Hopefully this week!
I’ve been under review since Jan 5 and it’s a bit odd that there has been no decision for so long
@Caramel101 that’s weird I received my decision only 5 weeks after having applied.
Applied in-state, November 15 - nothing yet. How long is it supposed to take? Obviously, they don’t process on a first-in, first-out system. Other decisions are coming in and we don’t want to have to make a decision in a tight time frame. The website said early March and it’s getting to be late March.
Just curious - does getting invited to the honors college have any impact on the timing? Over 4.0 weighted GPA, 2000+ SAT, APs, etc., so the app should be in play for CHC - wondering if that could slow things down?
D also waiting. Applied a few days before the deadline. In state.
Does anyone know of people who have been denied yet (RD) or do you think those come last
@dvillella – she was admitted generally, as far as we can tell - not into the engineering program specifically.
Fall 2016 RD application sent in and accepted on Dec 5th '15, in-state, ACT 31, uw GPA 3.79 (Jr & Sr year all APs).
Spire has been showing “under review” since Jan 28th '16
UMass is the last school we are waiting to hear from, accepted in UConn, PSU, Clemson and Univ SC
Money is tight so final decision will take into account Fin. Aid, Scholarships, work study etc.
It would be nice to hear from UMass soon so we can move onto the next step.
@marvymom Thank you for the info. Our S will need to be admitted into the Engineering program or he will not go. Since we heard it is extremely hard to get in if you don’t start year one. He has been admitted to RIT College of Engineering, so if UMASS is a no in that program we will go to RIT. Fingers crossed as UMASS instate is so financially better for us. @GmannCC I so agree with you, would love to hear this week to make decisions.
My D applied RD a week or so before the deadline - also for Engineering. Have heard from all other schools except here (in state) as well. @dvillella, I agree with you - Even with the scholarships from others - UMass is financially better for us. She did get into UMass Lowell Honors - no scholarship or assistance though and has offers from UVM; Wentworth as well as acceptance from UConn and VA Tech (waiting to hear about potential for scholarship or financial aid) all for Engineering. Waitlisted at WPI. Really want to make this decision and be done.
OK… so I have been this thread for a couple weeks and it has really helped while we wait. But the longer we wait and the more I read… I see we are not alone… DS applied Jan 7… under review for about 1 month… problem like many others… waiting…while we have the result from 10 other colleges we wait for UMASS AMH. Decisions need to be made…Computer Science, in-state, 4.23 W, incredible essay, few important ec’s, one job 2 years, All Honors & 5 total AP jr&sr year, instrument 7 years, language 6 years, SAT’s I don’t have exactly but he was in high 600’s for Reasoning & Math. WPI waitlisted, Denied Brandeis, SCHOOLS IN sample:: UMass Lowell Honors/ (no $$), Providence (no $$), Stonehill 18K, Assump 18K, Sacred Heart 18K, Suffolk 17.5K, UMASS Boston (Full $62,000 Chancellors Scholarship with Honors, Computer Science). Everyday constantly from all schools… emails, mailers, etc. time to decide. Yes, the obvious incredible one is UMASS B!) But Umass Amh is a big deal… so we wait…with everyone else. Thank you for opportunity to chime in. I have appreciated all your stories and situations and it has helped.
It makes me wonder why it is taking so long though. Every other school has sent out their decisions. Many of my daughters friends have gotten into UMASS amherst already, so it does make you wonder about the ones that didn’t. This thread has helped me as well and kept my patience at bay, but it would be nice to know so we can make our final decision. Good Luck!
My D has committed to UMASS Amherst, but she still hasn’t heard from Skidmore (not one of her top choices anyway). I guess there are still schools out there that haven’t sent their letters out yet!
My Daughter got her acceptance envelope March 7th we are in California I don’t know how many out of state kids they accept? I am hoping its a good fit for her she got denied from Boston University which broker her heart I can’t believe the stress you guys are dealing with!
Does anyone here know how hard it would be to transfer from the School of Engineering to CS? UMass was supposed to be a safety but I somehow ended up not getting my first choice CS major, instead being admitted to the school of engineering with the Chancellor’s scholarship. Not sure if this school is worth considering anymore if transferring is going to be really difficult…
@mcauley what’s your daughter’s major?
Hey everyone!
Got accepted today with a 2070 SAT and 3.75 gpa. International student here from India. Got OOS merit award of 10000$ a year.
I think Umass keeps releasing decisions in groups as and when the minimum number of accepted canditates come through.
Best of luck to everyone!!
Congrats @Sehaj14 ! Did you get that via snail mail or on your spire account?
