UMass Amherst Class of 2020 Decision Thread

@wishfulmomma my friend was RD. I was a deferred applicant! waiting to hear back

Hi all… I need some help in understanding what “exploratory track” means. For a CS major, what could that mean, or any major, I guess… I just don’t understand what it means. Thx!

OK, so I just went to the school’s website and found the page for Exploratory Track. So, now I understand… but, can you be invited into CHC and put in Exploratory Track at the same time?..does anyone know? thx

@sar756 Yes, think it was dated March 10th.

In state MA, still waiting, and it is last school for my son to get a decision. Definitely appealing school based on cost, he is undecided, but this is torture. I looked at last year’s thread, and some people were still waiting until mid-April to get their decisions!!

@fschil I know someone who got rejected a few weeks ago, she was deferred and then rejected.

@AlessMom1 I believe exploratory track replaces “undeclared” and is also for students who did not get into 1st choice major, so they have a home where their interest lies etc.

Looks random. Some hear via snail mail (perhaps OOS. may be in-state), others by email. The only constant is that their portals remain “under review”. UMASS-Amherst is taking a long time.

Site says that "SPIRE will be down for maintenance Saturday morning, March 26th beginning at 8 a.m. and will be available again around 12 noon that day. ".

Could this be a mass “application update”? I hope…

that would be awesome if it is update on application decisions! I can’t imagine that they are going to be as late as last year. Or I would hope not!!

Application status online still says “Under Review” but I got a letter in the mail today saying I was accepted to the Honors College with 10k/yr.!

I got to UMass Lowell and our system will be down at the same time,… it’s just maintenance throughout umass campuses hahaha. I wish it was decisions!

@jacbellini Congrats! instate or oos?

Still waiting for decision… Getting really anxious. I hope they can just give an answer and not drag it that long…

Any internationals here? Did anyone actually receive an hard copy of their acceptance? I got accepted in early January. Still haven’t received anything via snail mail though. So I was wondering if internationals do get a letter at all or not.

HAve any deferred students recieved a letter yet? Because as far as I have read, it doesn’t seem like deferred students haven’t heard yet… Is this true?

It actually really sad that UMass is taking such a long time to reply to some people while it’s replying so quickly to others. I got accepted within 10 says of submitting my app. It was weird but I was still happy.
I have fingers crossed for all of you. Hope you hear soon and hope the news is happy!

Hey guys. So I’ve been so anxious about hearing back from UMass. I applied right on the deadline date (RD) and I haven’t heard back yet. Two people from my school who applied RD have gotten in which has made me a bit nervous. One of them though has a 3.95 GPA out of our weird 5.3 GPA and on naviance it says that the average student that gets accepted has a 4.25 GPA. It puts me at ease, however he said that affirmative action may have played a role. Does AA actually play a big role or not? Anyway, so far I’ve gotten into URI, UNH, UVM, Emerson, and University of Denver. I don’t know how I got into Denver considering it’s identical to UMass requirements, however they have a strangely high acceptance rate. I also got into Emerson they have equal requirements to UMass. I’m personally pissed at myself because no authority figure that I cared about gave me advice to try hard in school. Because of this, I suffered subpar grades freshman year and sophomore year :(. I ramped up my motivation these past two years and it brought me up a little, however I know for a fact that if I had the same mindset back in 2012 I would have a 3.7 GPA and I wouldn’t be writing this abnormally long post about my chances for UMass. I don’t know, it just upsets me that a ton of kids apply here, get accepted, and don’t even consider going, claiming it to be a ‘safety school for them’. UMass is my dream school and I can’t imagine myself going anywhere else. Anyways here’s my stats and my resume so I can get feedback on my chances. Note that Cable Access and other vague names are just there because I don’t want people to pinpoint where I live haha. Also I did horrible on the SAT’s even though I took a prep class and had a SAT Math tutor for the better part of a year >:/. I’m applied as a communications major and even sent them my portfolio via google drive.

Accepted! I received an Email this morning and my spire updated as well. I’m on vacation, so I don’t know if my admission packet came in the mail yet, but I’m very excited to find out all my financial info.

Also got accepted into first major pre-med! From email and spire, mail still not here yet, but honestly, a huge stress just gone
