im still waiting on cs too! oos from california
From past years’ postings, merit is typically only given to OOS to offset the tuition jump.
ok now i feel better about the non honors college for my daughter reading your son’s stats. Thanks so much for posting.
Daughter accepted yesterday, in-state, no honors, ACT 33, GPA 4.3W
I applied OOS 10/27 from NJ
CS major
1330 SAT
4.36 W/3.75 UW
Haven’t heard anything yet, if someone from NJ does LMK
Accepted yesterday. In-state, 4.23W GPA, SAT 1580.
Honors college and Dean’s Award.
does anyone know what time of day it seems most people have been receiving decisions?
We were 330pm yesterday Thursday. Good luck! Many friends of my son, same school, instate, haven’t heard yet either.
Seems like those getting honors college had SATs in the 1500’s which is extremely impressive! Daughter was admitted yesterday but no honors. Does anyone have experience how challenging is it to get into the honors college once at UMass, I know you need to have a certain GPA.
Congratulations to your daughter! This would mean that Umass Amherst did give weightage to test scores. I recall they were almost the last to declare TO officially.
My older kid got into the CHC after the freshman year with a 3.8 GPA (Isenberg Finance Departmental Honors instead of Multidisciplinary Honors). You also need to submit 3 essays (600 words in total: a reflection on your academic experience at UMass, why you want to join CHC, and a very short description of yourself). I also know a kid who got in just after the first semester.
Was the CHC a good experience for your student?
my D got into the honors after her first term is now a junior. experience is good and she likes the couple of extra classes she has to do by experienced professionals in her field. highly recommend honors. and its completely doable right after the first term at umass
Thanks so much I had no idea you could transfer in so soon after entering UMass.
If you don’t mind
My Son has similar stats ,have you heard from other colleges ?
There have been many 1500+ on here that have not gotten Honors College, including my son. Unless there is additional aid involved, I’m not sure the benefit.
I’m not sure w UMASS exactly what the H college offers. But other colleges have special housing for H only and smaller classes and access to professors that non-H doesn’t have. At a v large school like UMASS have that carved out I would see as a very nice plus.
has anyone gotten rejected/deferred yet? it seems like all of the decisions so far have been acceptences
