UMass Amherst Class of 2025 Early Action

No trouble getting CS classes - he is a sophomore this year and all classes currently remote. Electives are harder to get it seems as they do fill up - but not that big a deal (he feels most of those are pretty useless anyhow - ie: anthropology, sociology, sustainability, chemistry - nothing he’ll ever use). If full, just pick something else with those

@capecod373 thank you for sharing. We are in California and things are really impacted at our publics - housing and classes. Do you expect him to graduate from UMass in 4 years?

Yes - he is on track for 4 years. He did get AP credit for English and Calc - so 2 less classes there. He has been taking 4 classes/semester.

Thank you again for sharing.

Has anyone still not received their decision?

Yes I have not heard back till now😔

yep, even I havent heard back yet :frowning:

DS hasn’t heard yet either way either

@capecod373 … hope you don’t mind a couple of questions that have been on my mind about UMass as we are seriously considering it for D21. So, is it your sense that within the student’s major it’s easier to get the classes you need? My daughter would be in College of Natural Sciences (bio major). Also does your son find the discussion groups led by TAs helpful? And finally is it hard to get research opportunities as an undergrad with so many students? Thx so much for any input, and if any others out there have kids enrolled now would love to hear!

No problem. My son hasn’t had any trouble getting into any classes at UMass. His AP and dual enrollment credits have exempted him from most gen ed classes, so he technically became a sophomore after fall semester. This meant that he was able to get an earlier advising appointment and registration time slot for spring than the typical freshman. In terms of getting classes in his major, he’s in the business school, and has been able to get what he needs as well. I don’t know about natural sciences. He says the discussion sections with TAs were pretty good in the fall. He had 3, and found all the TAs supportive and responsive. Of his 5 online classes, 4 were live, which he much prefers. Research has not come up at this point for him, so I can’t answer that question. He’s very excited to finally be moving to campus at the end of January. Hope that helps!

I just want to jump in here as my daughter is a microbio major, actlly she is double majoring and on track to finish in 4 years. Currently a junior. we cant say enough good things about this school. In sciences especially there is a lot of help with TAs and prof open office hours. TA sessions are a huge benefit esp during finals. profs are very approachable and want to help. She often says if only HS was this dedicated to students:) She has done a few research papers as well as interned. this being a state school they have huge state funding and hence research opp.

are these decisions ever going to be out or are we to wait another Thursday…oh soo many many Thursdays have come and gone:(

The regular decisions are coming in soon and the EAs are still on hold. now it’s worrying me… Are people here still waiting for their EAs?
I understand abt 7400 were released in dec on that 1 day and then nothing bef or after. Where are the “waves” we were waiting for…?

has anyone called their office?
