UMASS Amherst or RPI for Undergraduate Computer Science BS

Hi,

I’ve applied and got accepted into both of these schools for their Computer Science Programs.

I’ve done a lot of research on both of them and their respective CS programs, but I’m having trouble determining which one I should attend.

I’m just looking for any thoughts on which program / campus would be a better pick.

Rensselaer if financially equal If you have an economic incentive for uma all day long.

Agree with privatebanker. If money is equal go for RPI. If UMass is less you will get a good education there.

Have you visited both?

@MA2012 yes I’ve definitely visited both. Went to both the accepted students days and I could see myself going to both schools.

Anyone know the average CS class size @ RPI? It appears that UMASS Amherst has about 850 undergrad CS majors total, whereas RPI has more like 1000 undergrad CS majors. The CS faculty at UMASS Amherst is also twice that of RPI’s CS faculty. Does RPI compensate for this in any way?

More snow days to catch up at RPI

https://sis.rpi.edu/stuclshr.htm lists the size of each class.

@ucbalumnus Thank you! That was definitely helpful to see the breakout session size and lecture sizes for Comp Sci. Classes @ RPI. Anyone have a similar class size list for CS classes @ UMASS Amherst? I will post it here if I find it first.
