UMASS Amherst or UMASS Lowell for Engineering

So as the decision for which college to attend comes closer and closer, I am stuck between which school to attend for engineering. I was accepted into both colleges except I was not accepted into my first major of choice for UMASS Amherst. I was accepted into the engineering exploratory track, while for UMASS Lowell I was accepted into mechanical engineering (first choice). Not being accepted into my major of choice for UMASS Amherst is causing me to lean towards Lowell, but cost wise UMASS Amherst gave the better deal. Both colleges have great reputations and excellent programs. I’ve visited UMASS Lowell as my brother attends there and had a pretty good experience. Being on my high school robotics team, almost all of our engineers are from Lowell, all seeming to have an excellent career and a wide array of knowledge. Visiting UMASS Amherst in a couple of weeks, which school should I attend? My main concerns was not getting into my intended major at UMASS Amherst and the cost at Lowell being a bit higher.

i am also attending umass amherst for mechanical engineering. i do think it is better ( as per my research)

Amherst is a great college town, Lowell is sketchy. On the day my son moved into UMass-Amherst 4 years ago, there was a murder in Lowell a couple of blocks from campus. Reinforced his choice of schools!

i am attending umass amherst this year as a freshman so lets meet up there
after my research and consulting my aunt(who used to work there) is better and best option you got

Could someone clarify to me what exactly is the engineering exploratory track?
