I really like both schools and am still undecided on my major. I'm OOS and my parent's don't want me basing the decision off of money (they actually seem to be pushing for uvm), but i'm having a hard time choosing between the two. any advice?

I don’t know a thing about UMass Amherst but I know that UVM is an excellent school. I’m an in-state Vermonter and a good portion of people from my school go to UVM each year (about 1/5 of each graduating class). It’s known as one of the best state schools in the country. The city it’s in, Burlington, is small (~40,000) but a perfect college town. And Vermont is beautiful all around. UVM has great science/pre-med programs. Very eco-conscious. A new student center was built a couple years ago and it’s goooorgeous. The city is right on Lake Champlain. Really really spectacular for an in-state school. It’s not my first choice because it’s so close to home and not much of a new environment for me, but it’s a really really great option to have.

Whichever is the cheapest. Not sure either is worth OOS cost, but if you want it and can afford it, go for the one that will cost the least.

If you like both schools then pick the cheaper one. You will get a similar education either way.
