I’m putting in a Transfer application to UMASS Amherst for Fall 2018. I have a 3.92 GPA in Civil Engineering at Clarkson University.
Clubs:
-Associated General Contractors
-Clarkson University Student Association
-American Society of Civil Engineers
-American Chemical Society
-Steel Bridge
-Humans vs Zombies
-Admissions Tour Guide
-Potentially tutoring
-Potentially either research or being a TA(I’m in talks to do research, had an offer to be a TA but funding got pulled so that’s in limbo at the moment)
High school I didn’t do as well- 3.4 GPA, 1430-ish on SATs, 32 on ACT. I was sick for a month in Sophomore year, and as a result took a huge hit to my GPA(I wrote about this).
What are my chances for acceptance? Additionally, I’m pushing hard for an acceptance to the Honors College. If I get into Clarkson’s Honors Program, would listing that on my application to UMASS help my chances?
I’m not worried about an acceptance(While I hate to sound cocky, they ask for a 2.5 GPA, a 3.9 should be near-guaranteed admission)-I’m mainly worried about an Honors admission. Transferring inherently is going to cause me to lose some of the networking I would otherwise have by staying at Clarkson, I want to have Honors to make finding research and other opportunities easier. Honors also makes the transfer more justifiable, as Clarkson and UMASS have fairly similarly ranked Civil Engineering programs.
I’ll be getting my application in soon. I’m nearly done, just waiting on recommendations and a few forms.
I also think that you have a good chance. Personally, if I were in your situation and if I got in and could afford it, then I don’t think that I would be concerned about whether you get into the honors college. I think that you could do well at UMass with or without the honor’s college.
Are you in your first year at Clarkson or your second? If your second, then your high school grades would matter a lot less since you would have three semesters of very good grades in university. If you are in your first year at Clarkson, were your final senior year grades good in high school? Of course they didn’t have them when you applied before but do have them to look at now. If your last two years of high school are strong then this will help you also.
Money isn’t a concern, but the Honors College is a big selling point if I get it, especially if other schools offer me comparable aid.
I’m in my first year, so I unfortunately will be submitting my high school grades. My final senior year grades were all in the A range. My senior and junior years were strong, it was mainly my sophomore year that killed me(I had about a 3.7, then a 3.0, then went back up to around a 3.6-7).
With this additional information, I think that your chances at UMass are very good. I see from another thread that you are also applying to NEU. If you are in-state for Massachusetts, then I would expect UMass to be much more affordable, but you won’t know for sure until you hear back. Good luck with this!
Yeah, I’m in-state. I’ve expected UMASS to be the affordable and most feasible choice from the get-go. As I’ve said, I just want honors to make the best of the transition, and my educational career thereafter. Thanks!
Hi so this is the only transfer thread I saw for class of 2021 for UMass, but how do you check the status of your application?? I log into the student status page but there is no where for me to see the status of my application?? Thanks!!
Does anyone know how to check the status of your application? I was sent an email with a link to the student status page, but nothing to a spire account or anything else. Is the student status page where we receive our admissions decision?
I just received an email about an update in my account, the link directed me to the acceptance letter. Mass transfer here with GPA 3.8, accepted in the Management program. Good luck guys!
I applied March 1st and I heard that they got my transcript but i’ve heard nothing else. Should I be worried, or have any other transfers experienced something similar?
To those of you who have heard back, when did you complete your applications? I submitted my common app on March 20th, and they had received and processed all necessary documentation from me by April 3rd. I assume I’ll hear back sometime this week but the wait is making me nervous.
Hey @jooleeaah I applied March 24th and everything is processed as well. I called admissions and they said we’ll hear back end of April to beginning of May but I’m not sure how accurate that is! Regular decision for freshman was sent out this weekend as well as other transfers, so I’m figuring we must be up next.
