UMass Amherst University acceptance 2015

@Remphin‌ congrats!!! Did you get acceptance in the mail today?? Or online?

Congratulations! Sorry if this is creepy, but what state are you from? (just trying to figure out when I’ll get my letter)

@Mtrach4‌ I got it in my mail today.
@sophievb315‌ I am a instate student. Thank you both for congratulating. Good luck to you both !

@bucky0926‌ while this morning I was inclined to agree with you based on the fact we have seen no one reporting defers or rejections I’m not so sure after I checked my CT Public school’s Naviance reporting. Only 1 person out of 25 applicants has heard back and been accepted (I think about 15 of those were EA) and last year 25/31 applicants were ultimately accepted. That combined with the fact that UMASS EA is about a 75% acceptance rate leads me to believe that everyone still has a good shot. so many great students from our school have not heard back- hard to believe majority will be deferrals/rejections.

CT Football I tend to agree with you. Its hard to believe that all those kids will be deferred/rejected. Umass does try to let everyone know by the 15th so all should be watching for the mailman. But with the number of applicants increasing so rapidly it does mean that they will hedge their bets and wait until all RD applications are in before final decisions. They still will only admit X number of students during EA so the percentage of those getting admitted during EA will also decrease. It helps them to say they are getting more selective so the more apps they receive the better for the school. After all the number they can admit can’t really change especially with UMass wanting 95% of their freshman living on campus. Not unless they can build pop up dorms…

My son is a strong contender for UMass…he has been accepted to FSU already and he is probably going to attend even though UMass was his first choice…it is now his last!!! They took kids from his HS that are not anywhere near his stats…it completely turned him off!!! He hasn’t heard yet but if they defer him or reject him we will brush it off and choke it up to a completely inadequate system! He applied in mid September and the admissions office tells my son it is random…BS!!! The whole process is terrible and stressful!!! Good Luck to everyone still waiting!!! They lost my son due to their
“random” process!!!

@NYIslekid it’s frustrating but random. I heard from UMass, UPitt, NEU, WPI immediately while I’ve been waiting months and months for acceptances from other schools that I should have gotten into. Go figure! Seems everyone’s impression of a school is based on this first admittance step. I am happy with the UMass process (since I heard early, got merit, and a nicely put together package) and I’m ready to ditch all the other schools I’m waiting on (after seeing students with lower scores get in already). Normal I guess but I’m still trying to keep an open mind.

If UMass was his first choice and does get in, think about going to Spring Open House. After all, come fall we’ll all be freshmen that first day and it won’t matter what month we got in. If he doesn’t, I have friends who love FSU and they don’t have to trudge through the winter snow

Thank you @univin2015 the draw of nice weather is huge especially during these winter months lol…I am upset for my son…he worked so hard and got all his applications in so early. I appreciate your kind words!!! Best of luck to you!!!

@NYIslekid, I agree that the process is awful, and it’s hard to wait when you see others being accepted. However, the website says that notifications will be sent out through mid-January, so technically they haven’t done anything to deserve being written off. Best of luck to your son in FL.

@NYislekid Ya, I agree with @univin2015, I understand how it must feel. Unfortunately UMass this year has likely received many more EA applications than they expected due to the jump in the rankings and the new TV ads. I appreciate your concern and I guess this is just how it worked out. (I wouldn’t take it as a insult) Also, about those students with lower stats, I have seen many students in the past say they got into “UMass” when they actually got into Lowell or one of the other five campuses and not the Flagship at Amherst. So, ultimately, I would certainly try asking to clarify which campus. (Obviously some are easier than others) Best of Luck!

So if the admissions process is random… then they randomly pick applications to review. A decision is made… then the notification is randomly sent? I find this hard to believe. At the end of the day the University is a business. Admissions is their bread and butter. I doubt the process is random at all.

Thank you @jmek15 and @halcyon77 the kids that got into UMass were to the Amherst campus…I don’t want to put them down it is just frustrating!! I needed to vent!! lol…but we are taking him to FSU in Feb and if he loves it (nothing not to love) he will be attending! Good Luck!

@bluedoggy4 well, no I didn’t mean random in that sense but rather in finding out from one school vs the other. I got into a reach school right away, but I haven’t heard from a safety yet. I’m not complaining! I agree all schools know what they want and they have a process that works for them. Bottom line, we just need to be patient…

My son was accepted today for sport management! He applied EA back in mid Sept. Finally!!!

Congrats! What were his stats if u don’t mind? Also did u get mail first or online status change?

@Mtrach4 That’s great! Sports Management is a quite competitive program to get into. I’m sure other people will be glad to hear that they are still handing out acceptances! Congratz

@saggygangsta‌ thanks! He had a 3.9 and 1910 SAT. He applied mid-Sept. And finally heard today!

@Halycon. Thanks. Yes they are still sending out acceptances! Good luck!

Hey sophievb315, mind telling me what major you applied into? Your stats look really good overall and I think you have a really good chance of getting into the honors college.

@sophievb315 I wouldn’t worry about getting accepted to UMass unless you are going for a very competitive major. Your GPA is slightly above the average student (U-3.89 vs 3.8) and this years ACT will likely average 28. (U have a 31 so your well above the average ACT… congrats!) Also, ajave mentioned above the honors program, but personally I wouldn’t get too hopeful about that since your GPA is below the average. (U-3.89 vs 4.25) This being said, your grades seem pretty solid so I am sure you have a very good shot at most majors. (As well as a small shot at the honors program) Hope this helps! I’m sure they will be happy to accept you with that ACT!
