I am in state for UMass but UNC gave me more money so i have to pay less there. Is UNC worth it ? Im mainly worried because i want to work in washington DC, NYC Boston, or LA area in the future. Which degree is more portable and useful in large cities?

It seems like a no brainer, but will a UMass amherst degree be better for Boston or NY? if not, carolina all the way (cheaper too)

Dfree, UNC meets need (even for OOS students) while UMass does not.

Choate, UNC is considered an outstanding public U, one of two which meets need for all students. This is the easiest choice I’ve ever seen. UNC.

UNC Chapel Hill has a higher reputation than UMass Amherst in most majors. If you have any majors you are specifically interested in, you may want to check their course offerings and reputations in those majors.

These schools arent even comparable. UNC is better in every single aspect. Sports, weather, reputation, academics, social life - all are way better at UNC.

I think that to say that Carolina has a higher reputation than UMass is an understatement. The two are not even comparable academically. While UMass might have some majors that are better than UNC’s, overall UNC FAR exceeds UMass in reputation and overall quality. And, there are 1000s of UNC grads in DC and NYC. I do not know about Boston. I worked in DC for the Federal Government and lived downtown and in the suburbs for 30 years. I never met one UMass grad. The only one I knew was in grad school at Chapel Hill and she was really good.

I’m a Duke grad and I fully expect you to make the obvious choice here and come to UNC so you can watch the Tarheels lose to Duke next Spring in the Dean Dome for the second straight year.;)

I’m a UMass grad and there is no comparison between UMass and UNC. Thank your lucky stars you have the option to go to Chapel Hill. You will love it. And it is a far, far better school.

Wow I was also thinking full-ride UMASS vs. UNC-CH full pay. This is one of the easiest choices I’ve ever seen. UNC is going to be much stronger all across the country and particularly in the Northeast. Its also has stronger students and one of the best college experiences in the country. No brainer - UNC.
