Here's my situation: I'm currently attending a community college studying comp sci. and mathematics, and in a year or so, I will be transferring to a public New England university. I've narrowed down my choices to UMass-Amherst and UVM.

Being a Massachusetts resident, I'm more inclined to go for UMass-Amherst due to the much cheaper price-tag, and for the fact that it seems to be a really solid school with an impressive faculty (their CS/engineering is supposedly strong). Now, UVM catches my eye because according to a recent Forbes report, it is the #1 public in New England and #18th public nationally. UVM is also considered a "Public Ivy" (Moll, 1985). And thus, it begs the question if out-of-state tuition for UVM is worth it (nearly three times more).

In a nutshell:
* UMass-Amherst vs. UVM: which is better for CS?
* Is UVM worth the (rather drastic) out-of-state price-tag?

My GPA is around a 3.0. Once I apply to four-year Universities however I project it to be above a 3.5 (at least), which I think would be plenty enough to be admitted to either school. I'm still leaning towards UMass-Amherst, but really, is there any sort of compelling reason UVM is superior, other than the black-and-white higher ranking?

Upon doing more research, the choice is clear: UMass-Amherst. A recent Forbes report ranked it top 20 for computer science and top 10 for AI. UVM is cool and all, but I was never much of a hippie liberal d-bag anyhow. UMass-Amherst it is. Thanks for the 'help' guys.
