Hi, I am a Junior in High School and having been thinking a lot about college lately, more specially, UMASS Amherst. It seems like a good school and I think I would really enjoy it there. I was wondering if I have any type of shot at going and if so how much. My freshmen year I took all CP classes and had a overall GPA of 2.88 (I know really low, I did not try). Sophomore year I had 2 honors and 3 CP classes and had an overall GPA of 3.9 for that year. I am doing well so far in my Junior year. I am taking 1 AP, 3 Honors and only 1 CP and plan on getting AT LEAST a 3.8 this year. Between my Freshmen and Sophomore my weighted GPA is 3.4. As I progressed through High School my classes got more difficult, especially this year I am really challenging myself. The gap in my GPA for the first two years is huge (2.88 and 3.90) and my freshmen year does not represent my ability at all. Without my Freshmen year my GPA would be way higher than it is currently. I do not do any type of sport or clubs, but I am one of the upperclassmen who do freshman orientation and other actives with them throughout the year and I heard that looks very well on a college resume. If any other people attended/ are attending UMASS Amherst what were your stats and does it seem like I have a chance. I am just worried that my freshmen year GPA will bring me down even though that does not show what I am able for. Please tell me if i have any chance or if I should begin to consider other colleges as opinions for my future, trust me I can take it.

If you do well this year you should be a reasonably competitive applicant.

But: paragraphs! Really! Using them will help.

You have a solid chance if you get in their range for the SATs. They don’t care much about sports/ activities/ essays there. Good luck!

Sorry about lack of paragraphs, this is my very first post, still new.

And I am planning on doing well on my SAT’s, I know they are tough but I am confident I’ll at least hit UMASS average, which is around 1800-1850ish
