Umass amrehst comp sci program ??

How is Umass amrehst comp sci program??. Got scholarship of $12000 per year. Not sure to accept the same over UW seattle pre science major ??.. Waiting for UCI waitlist. Not sure which one i need to decide of three…

Sometimes feel better to go community an d transfer to uc’s nd stick to silicon valley than going east coast nd coming back here… Pour in your ideas… I would like to do double major in machine learning nd artificial intelligence

Are you sure you have the attention to detail necessary to succeed in computer science?

If you already live in Cali, I’d probably just go with the cc and transfer into a UC. However, if you’re keen on going to the east coast, I would recommend you actually just to go for a school like WPI instead. It’s about an hour drive from UMass Amherst and I would consider it better than Amherst’s.

WPI doesn’t have a better CS program than UMass, It’s quite the opposite actually. Plenty of kids from here go to the West Coast, but the majority do stay on the East Coast. We also have one of the top programs for AI work, so I’d recommend at least seriously considering it. If it’s not the financially optimal route, then I’d recommend going to a CC in CA and then transferring to a UC, as the UCs also have top programs and, like you mentioned, proximity to Silicon Valley

Huh…it seems like I’ve been corrected, apparently Amherst does have a better CS program than WPI. However, after a bit of looking around, it seems like almost all of the UCs (and schools like U So Cal.) are ranked higher than Amherst in CS, by quite a large margin. UC Berkeley is in the ranks with schools such as MIT and Stanford having the top CS programs in the world. Honestly, like I said before, I would probably just recommend going to a CC in Cali. and work hard and transfer into one of the UC’s CS programs. Assuming you aren’t worried about being overwhelmed or anything, I would choose the UCs over Amherst. However, if you decide to go to Amherst instead, no harm there. Amherst’s CS programs ranks in the top 50 and you’re sure to still get a great education.
