I have been accepted at UMASS Boston for Biology Pre medicine. I felt good about this acceptance, and i didn’t give a look at other pre med schools in Massachusetts. Now, after talking with some of my relatives in Boston, they somehow had heard that Umass Boston wasn’t such a good pre med school, especially if i wanted to catch a good med school in the future. To tell the truth, i felt a little bad about it, because i had no information that umass boston wasn’t a good school. Of course i didn’t get all the words seriuosly, mostly because i don’t know who they might have asked.
So guys, leaving behind the words, i want to ask you now, if Umass Boston is a right pre med school, meaning that in the future, with the high GPA and MCAT, can i get accepted into great medical schools, like Harvard, Yale, University of Massachusetts Medical school etc.
My parents are both biologists in the area and I can say with some authority that UMass Boston is by no means on the level of Harvard or MIT when it comes to Biology. However, my parents have been to many conferences where the UMass Bio department presented and they were very impressed. The department is very focused, driven, and up-and-coming. They’re also young and enthusiastic. Anyway, when it comes to science, all I’ve learned from my parents is that everything is politics. I have several possible internships for the Summer lined up based off my father working with MIT and my mother working in a lab that gets millions in grants. So really, you could go to a state school like UMass but get into a lab that publishes in Nature. It’s the work you do, the lab you do it in, not the school you attended. Anyway, UMass Boston is a good school (by state school standards anyway).
