Umass, Brandeis, Penn State, or Colby?

For Pre med track and better chances (feeder) for top Grad Schools.

They are all very good.

To know which is best for you we would need to know a lot more about you.

If you are serious about premed, then you need to budget for a full 8 years, where the last four years are expensive.

One could get into med school or any other type of professional school that only wants pre-reqs good GPA, and a high test score, from any of these schools, just fine. For grad school, it depends upon what you’re going for. If it’s for a particular discipline, you need to have established an excellent track record within that field, at the undergrad school. For example, you won’t be a poetry major, and then get into grad school for oceanography. So if your goal is grad school in a specific academic field, choose the school that has the best undergrad for that field.

Money, size, distance, culture, competition for establishing the necessary high GPA for professional school - all important considerations.

But for the food? UMass Amherst, hands down. Wins best in the nation, year after year. I likened the dining there to a cruise ship buffet, but healthier.

Thanks - This is actually for my DD. She would prefer a smaller school with intellectual students. Leaning towards Neuroscience.

Agree about the food at Umass! If only other schools even made 1/2 the effort that Umass does regarding food.

Brandeis then. The only thing that the honors college at UMass was good for, for my kid, was the nice dorms with other smart residents, and the mandatory but not any good honors seminar class the first semester (meaning it was a drawback). On the other hand, the department major for kid was very good, and the ability to take some classes at Amherst and see how the tippy-top school kids were, was very educational for kid.

Brandeis has really good sciences. Might be the place for her.
