Hi,

I am interested in Umass (my local state school) and have been hearing great stuff about the program. Could anyone care to explain why CS at Umass is good. Other than umass I have been looking at other state schools with supposedly good CS programs too.

The University of Massachusetts is highly regarded in computer science because their faculty are very highly rated by their peers for their research. Hopefully you will get to meet some of those faculty as teachers and research mentors.

It would be tough to pay oos rates for another state college, imo, when you have such a good option for CS instate. I don’t know the specifics of the UMass undergrad program but it is well reputed with excellent job placements. It has the typical large amount of lower and upper division courses on offer. It is attached to a highly ranked grad school at a National Research Uni, so there is a lot of research activity going on that undergrads should look to get involved with.
