I am most likely going to be going to UMass Amherst next year. I received my acceptance the other day, and I am now just thinking through the details. Which dorm would fit me the best? I am a guy. I am a fairly social person. I want to go to most of the home sporting events. I want partying to be an option, but i dont plan on partying every night. I will be in Isenberg School of Management, and I do care about getting good grades and doing all my work, so I would like it if there was a time when there wasn't constant noise and parties. Thanks for the help everyone

Probably Central

I agree with fallenwinter, central is in close proximity to isom and has a good social life but also knows when to be quiet and study.
Hey, I think I’m in a pretty similar position to TJ, I agree with what he said about social life, partying, spoty and location near Isenberg.
I’m also an international student from Australia and will be attending UMass this fall.
I’ll be studying sport management courses and love sport, so I’m guessing I want to be close to the Isenberg School of Management. Im leaning towards South-West or Central.
Is there places at UMass where people get together to watch the patriots, celtics or red sox?
Also I’m in my second year in Australia, but I was thinking that I would probably want to be with first years as I haven’t been to college before?
Honestly, Southwest would be great for a lot of the things you guys are looking for (social, sporty and party filled with decent proximity to Isenberg). But it can get really noisy up there. I was leaving Hamp (best dining hall on campus) the other day and the music bumping from the low-rises was so loud I could hear it from the street. And this was on a Wednesday. Central would be a better fit to avoid this, and OHill isn’t that bad either.
Hey, I was recently accepted to Umass Amherst for Mechanical Engineering. Could you suggest some dorms which I should try to get into? I like to be social, but I dont want to go somewhere where drinking and partying is in excess
I am in very similar to @Kuria12336, I need a similar dorm
I wold prefer private bathroom (maximum shared between 8 people instead of whole floor)
@mmaannii. We don’t have private bathrooms here. Why do you want a private one? I honestly would not worry about that.
@mmaannii @studiesandlists Well, if I remember correctly, upperclassmen CHC dorms have bathrooms where you only share it with 3 other people. But that’s about as close as you’ll get to a private bathroom without going out and getting your own apartment. (I think that freshmen CHC students still have to share with their whole floor however).
S had an apartment in North his junior year where 2 bathrooms were shared by 4 guy, but North is for juniors and seniors only, I believe.
My daughter will be a sophomore in CHC next year and she will be in a suite with 3 other girls. They have their own bathroom and a common room in the suite. Then there are apartments for juniors or seniors that have common room, kitchen and bathroom.
Son was accepted into Comp Sci and we are considering either Northeast or OHill. Do either of these have advantages over the other? Proximity to Comp Sci building, better bathrooms, quiet or newer building?
@supermom2 Northeast has the oldest buildings on campus, so you gotta be prepared for slightly smaller dorms. OHill used to be the old honors college, and has slightly larger than average rooms. Also, OHill is where the Comp Sci RAP is. Northeast is primarily engineering students since it’s the closest to their classes. OHill usually has a nice mix of people from all majors, because it is slightly out of the way, so whoever lives there go there for a reason besides class proximity. However, that hill can be a pain to walk up every day, but you’ll eventually get used to it. Personally, I am going to go dorm in OHill if I don’t get in the Isenberg RAP.
