Is UMASS worth the out of state tuition? Are there opportunities to get out of state waivers? What is just the general feel at UMASS for someone who isn't a Mass. native?

(I'm from Texas and currently living abroad if that matters.)

Are you asking about UMASS Amherst or UMASS Boston. The Amherst campus is in the western part of the state – no where near Boston (just going by your user name:)). UMASS Amherst is the state flagship. Hard to say if it’s worth out of state tuition, that would be individual to you, your interests, and other options on the table.

UMass-Lowell and UMass-Dartmouth, for that matter, are closer to Boston than Amherst!!

Frankly, I don’t understand why someone would want to pay higher OOS costs to attend another state’s flagship, when their own flagship (U. of Texas in Austin, for example) are good schools.
