UMass to Increase Fees

Faced with budget gap, UMass may raise fees again - The Boston Globe

"Fees could rise as much as $880 per year for the average UMass undergraduate student; that would raise the combined tuition and fees for in-state students to an average of $11,900 per year."

Not unexpected, given the declining level of state support. It's still a good alternative to $50K + private U's though.

I feel the same way. There is a long way between the 20K it costs us to send my son to UMass and the 50K it would take to send him to the alternatives. Even if it gets up to 25K or a little beyond, it’s still an incredible value. UMass is going to become increasingly competitive in admissions as parents start to figure out the extra 100K they are dropping on private schools isn’t worth it.

What really hurts is that it now costs $500 extra per year to be in the Honors college.
