UMBC or RIT for a Computer Science Major

Hello all,

I'll be leaving for college soon, pursuing a bachelor's degree in Computer Science. Two top schools that I'm really looking at are University of Maryland, Baltimore County and Rochester Institute of Technology. I've looked into both schools, viewed their websites, requirements for admissions and their computer science programs. I suppose this question is geared towards those who have been to either school and majored in Computer Science. Which school would best suit my needs?

Additional Info: I looked into RIT's minors and am considering Game Design/Game Design and Development. Not really interested in the minors that UMBC offers.

P.S. I'm new :)

Where do you live?

What can you afford to pay?

We visited RIT when my son was in high school. What he didn’t like was the campus (“Brick City” - buildings all look the same), the location (not much within walking distance of campus),
the required co-op program (though most people love this feature), snow - they get a lot in the winter (#11 in the list of highest average snowfall cities).
Having said that I think RIT is a great school for someone interested in engineering/sciences or business or art (to my surprise). Looking at the CS and other related majors and minors, it has many more options for you to choose from if you decide against game design. If you are interested in co-op their program is very strong.
I have no first hand experience with UMBC. I suspect it would be a better if you thought you might switch into a liberal arts field. You might like the campus “vibe” better unless you like a decidedly “geeky” vibe. The weather would be nicer
So it depends on what you are looking for and of course what you can afford and can get into :-)
