I know that college park is a better school than UMBC, but I heard that UMBC is really good for computer science and technology and that sort of thing. My major is going to be computer science, so for that major do you guys think that college park is the better choice, or is UMBC better for that major?

UMCP has a very strong computer science program; probably the better choice for you.

Seeing as you are posting this on a UMD forum, I think, just possibly, the general consensus might be that UMD is better. That being said, both school have excellent computer science programs. What your choice will probably boil down to is cost (UMD is notorious for being more stingy with money than UMBC) and other factors. If it means anything, I am going to be a computer science major at UMD and I chose it over UMBC.

To me, the universities are so different as far as the environment. You would probably get a fine education at either. But do you want more of the big university experience with sports or would you be happy a a smaller school that prides itself in being an honors college of sorts?

I have a friend who has twins–one at each of the schools you are considering. Both are happy with their choices. Both are doing well and have lots of opportunities for internships.

And I would agree with the above poster: if you are looking for money, UMBC has many scholarship opportunities. You might apply to both and see what is offered.

UMCP i’ve heard is very good in CS
